Boss comes in to my office today, basically discusses how I've been distant, not into the job anymore, essentially fires me at 3PM. I get home at like 7PM, get a call at 7:30, get offered trading position in Chicago.

I was sitting in the train station despondent, not sure wtf I was doing with my life. 2 hours later, I basically get a dream job scenario (for me), and was unemployed today for a grand total of 4.5 hours. Moving to Chicago in the next 2 weeks and starting up on March 5th.

Sounds like someone needs a six pack of Natty Light to celebrate!

heh, i'm kinda pissed at myself to not getting fired from a business job when I decided to do medicine. It'd be nice to be getting UE while playing poker.

Well yes, obviously. That's why I plan to stay on unemployment as long as it takes me to do the stuff I want to do. Then I will get a job with 3 days of searching.

Here is your punishment for being on unemployment: You get paid about as well as an entry-level college graduate in a ****ty field for doing 0 hours of work. But it only lasts 12 months. Unless you file an extension.

Haha, this reminds me, the last job I had before I started playing poker was at a small law firm. After about 4 months they cleaned house of all the recent hires (so everyone except a few staffers who had been there a while). I filed to collect unemployment, and about a week later I heard from them and they decided to hire me back rather than deal with whatever they had to report to the unemployment offices. Which kind of makes me wonder what was going on there, but I was 23 and didn't care.

This is one of the worst beats I have ever heard.

Well, to be fair, the job wasn't really stringent on things like "showing up on time" or "downloading music and burning a dozen CDs a day" or "playing online poker at your desk".

I recommend Wicker Park area blindly.

If you give sketch of life characteristics, ie age, marital status, kids, what you do for fun besides follow Michigan athletics, I can give you a list of options.

assuming you're going to work in the loop, anywhere up the red line until sheridan is probably best. Young area, lots of michigan grads, fun things to do and easy to travel to just about anywhere.
