there has been no confirmation of what is or isn't in it, but some have said they don't feel the payroll tax is the right vehicle. it is quite possible, however, that poker gets tacked on (although, as always, it's a long shot... it's always a long shot, but many feel the odds are one of these shots is going to hit this year due to the enthusiasm from inside the reid/kyl camp on getting this done).

there will be other potential vehicles in the next 2 weeks. beyond that the lame duck session is also quite a good target. i honestly feel pretty good that something will get done this year. my friends who are involved are still very bullish, but i am cautious. as of 4 weeks ago i would have told you a 10% chance at best... now i feel like it's 50/50, perhaps better this year.

what is this something that will get done? can we bet on this something?

i mean, i would love to bet that there is no bill legalizing internet poker in the next x amount of days.

I look forward to seeing how laughably stupid the terms are in a legalized Internet poker bill.

no? i dont understand this post, sorry.

i suppose you are just getting your late night troll on, but i will say any % chance at this point is pure guesswork on my part other than what i repeat from the people involved in the lobbying process. i mean as of a month ago i would have thought there was next to 0 chance. and if i wasnt hearing what im hearing first hand, i wouldnt believe me either. im still a bit skeptical myself.

you dont have to wait. there's plenty of draft legislation lying around that will likely look very similar to the bill. the reid drafts from last year and the year before would be good starting points.

although in the current bill... yeah there could be some pretty bad stuff that could make it through. hopefully it doenst make it (if something passes).

The amount of stupidity in a federal bill will be infinitely less stupid than the current situation, so I'll be all for it. The bill won't signify the end of the fight for online poker; it will be the beginning of a new era. There will be a lot of work left to do, both at the federal and local level.

Yeah it will almost certainly be better than the status quo, I guess. I mean if you're reasonably intelligent, the current barriers to entry are really good for you. But overall, it's probably best to legalize it.

I just love the idea of old people making decisions about the Internet. And by love, I mean hate.

so riverman posts that the poker add on is dead. you have posted many times that a short time ago you would not have believed that legalization of poker was even remotely possible.

now, for some cryptic reasons, you think poker will be legal.

im saying, i would bet against it happening over the course of the next political season. i said 'x' initially bc i have no idea about terms or any of that crap but i think yall know what i mean by season and x and all that.

its the same sht as before and im def pretty mad i engaged in the last few pages of this thread. old rich ppl with no reason to care sitting on a cash cow arent going to do a damn thing to get with the times and maximize their cash. business bigwigs are there moar bc of luck than skill and they remain their for political (not just guvment politics but internal power type sht) reasons.

in short, tz gms>>>>>>lol nba. tz bidness>>>>>>lol irl bidness.

but its not even like tz xers are the even that special or good. proly around 85 percentile. if real smart ppl were in charge of poker then bellagio.com would been rakin cash for 10+ yrs.

While newer players will play less volume on average, they may be able to make up for it by adding a much larger player base. The fish will be able to win more pots and bigger pots in a manner where there real winrate (or in reality, lossrate) improves despite a higher rake. I could see a situation where it isn't worth a pro's time to play on a site but would result in a huge amateur influx. This is probably the ideal scenario for casinos.
The best solution imo is to limit the amount of multi-tabling that can be done and not allow for HEM/PT3/whatever other online sites that track winnings. Let the regular recreational players have a chance at winning money (by lessening their chances of playing with a solid player), and combine it with some sort of deal that allows them packages at the satellite B&M casino.

A variant on this has had me tilted for years: Why the **** didn't 2+2 fire their previous lawyer who said "LOL you can't run a rakeback site!"

Probably lost 8 figures as a result of that terrible decision.

you are just shifting the profits. the recreational players lose the same amount without hem/pt3 existing, it just goes to different "pros" or "winners."

regardless, its not feasible. i was massively reliant on those tools and would absolutely welcome a draconian enforcement of removing such utilities bc i am positive i could find a full proof workaround.

That's not really my point (the people that will lose will always lose) - my point being that they should try to make it a more welcome environment for the recreational player, one where they aren't going to see an absurd rake or the same regs infesting their tables. That can be done if they limit the pros advantage or the number of tables the pro can have access to. If they can promote it as a casual game where one isn't at risk to be crushed by a pro, I think they'll be able to attract more players.
