In NY I think the pack is $3 and the tax is an additional $5+.

Sort of makes you wonder how the hipsters can afford it. Must make communal reservation runs

Cigarette tax varies radically by location. I think a pack costs close to 9 bucks in Seattle.
Wow if this is what a GOOD politics thread looks like.

hipsters only smoke when someone's watching

Last edited by PocketChads; 02-13-2012 at 04:56 PM. Reason: i mean, cigarettes are the easiest way to prove that hipsters are not human -- they are never actually addicted to nicotine

I have joked in the past that when people say "last post" they never mean it and I really did mean it, but then I did some research. So this is a real last post on the subject and I super duper double promise to not continue this politarding.

The below graph is from the study cited above. The x-axis is in arbitrary units of random bull**** that determine how harmful a drug is.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11660210

According to a study by the CDC, which someone on Yahoo! answers read and summarized
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...0164820AAiaGyr
Quote:
According to the CDC, in 2006 (most recent year with data available), 75% of adults age 18 and over in the United States had used alcohol at some point in their lives. 61% were current drinkers, meaning that 14% were former drinkers who had made the decision to stop using alcohol. The remaining 25% of the population were lifelong abstainers.
According to HowStuffWorks.com, Magic Mushrooms, the least harmful drug according to the study cited above
http://science.howstuffworks.com/magic-mushroom.htm
Quote:
According to the 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, about 8 percent of adults over the age of 26 in the United States have used magic mushrooms
7arbitaryunits*/0.08 = approximately 1 abritary unit per 1% of the population who has ever used the drug.

72arbitaryunits*/0.75 = approximately 1 abritary unit per 1% of the population who has ever used the drug.

And the above numbers don't account for the fact that most alcohol-users use alcohol more frequently than most mushroom-users use mushrooms. Alcohol's giant lead is largely a function of it's popularity, which was my contention 30 posts ago.

There is a debate to be had about decriminalization/legalization/the war on drugs/lol america, but any who looks at the study with any kind of scrutiny and upholds its conclusion struggles with basic rational thinking.

Spoiler:
Congratulations you made it to the end!

1. Frats are fun (living in them is not fun)
At most colleges I've been to (I'm sure anyone who wasn't in a frat will disagree), frats throw the best parties. the hottest girls like to go to frat houses and frat parties. you have fun and drink and make friends and bond over stuff that means little (like you do anywhere else in college)
Paying a marginal amount for that is no big deal. the easy access to a party house/hot girls/drinking in college is more than worth it. went to liberal arts school where parties were dominated by frats. would have been sad/jelly had i not been in one

2. There are obv cases where you could have a fair amount of GHB without being a rapist/dealer. seems dumb though, awful drug, unfun high

3. Anyone in this drug debate actually done any of it? would def get abused a ton more if it were legal. also shouldn't cite other countries when talking about american addiction and consumer habits. american consumers are in a world of their own

The politarding isn't as bad as the missed opportunity to debate the merits vs. the evils of betting don't pass. Which if you have any sort of soul you know it's equivalent to yelling SEVEN over and over again at the table and not worth the 0.3% improvement in odds or whatever.

they should print more money and give it to people

if it costs $1,000 to print $1,000,000 then the USA as a whole is $999,000 better off for each million they mint.

no brainer

It should be just behind alcohol, but ahead of heroin addicts. the h addicts do all their damage when they're feinded out, and need a blast. meth-heads do damage when high and withdrawling.

Hmmmm, I always thought don't pass had marginally better odds. Maybe you're looking at come out roll only or something. I hope you're right though.
