except that the guy known as the most hard line moderator on the site actually took the SE model (specifically citing it) and used it as inspiration for a new set of rules in his forum.

so precisely the opposite, really.

Yeah, that move has been awesome. Instead of correcting the horrible modding, rapini just deletes stuff instead of giving out ******ed infractions.

i didnt comment on its efficacy, just the attempt

despite what people (and, again, reserving my own comment) think of his modding, ive met rapini IRL and he's a good guy.

C'mon now, it's been a consistent thing for like 10 years. I mean, suggesting that what I wrote doesn't happen when it happens all the time is at best disingenuous, regardless of very recent events.

Plus, in those recent events, I was particularly vocal about the Rapini stuff, so I'm aware that he's trying to change, but my comments weren't specific to him, and in general I think the site is still not transparent enough and there are lots of pretty awful over-modding types around.

Ah, now your post is more clear. It was a knee-jerk reaction to defend what you *perceived* as shots at a guy with a truly horrible mod track record because you've met him IRL. Got it.

i mean yeah i didnt mean to be disingenuous and you are right that there has been some of that snickering in the past, but not much recently.

i like the SE overall model very much... i think it's one of the better moderation approaches ive seen.

my only gripe is that the history of moderation on a user is contained almost exclusively in the SE FAQ with no infractions/notes blah blah blah so a user with (0) might have a history of 8 bans for trolling or something. but tbh that's not a huge issue for me since im in SE all the time and i know who does what.

whoa calm down bro. im not attacking you or knee-jerk defending rapini.

i defy you to find someone who has been more openly critical of rapini's modding than i have. i just dont post it here... simply in the mod forum. lol i didnt see this post before i made my last one. im really not picking on you guys at all and i actually think you all do a good job. ive always said that.

Karak,

I overreacted to the "exactly the opposite comment", for reasons I listed above. My bad.

tuq=

I was confused first time I saw a pic of him because I always expected him to look like his long time ash_ketchum avatar (the poster, not the pokeman character)

MEb and all. But Nolanfan was the first SE Mod with AngryCola. MEb replaced Nolanfan. Though in fairness, the forum grew after MEb took over so calling him original mod isn't really wrong at all. Just giving Nolanfan love is all.

Also going back to old SE. Wasn't it between MEb and JoA as the next SE mod? And the reason JoA wasn't selected was that he was considered basically nothing but a troll? I maybe mis-remembering as it was so long ago. Just funny thinking back on that.

nolanfan is a hell of a golfer if people were unaware. Also he has a great hustle bet; he will agree to play at least one shot left-handed per hole as a handicap. (He putts lefty.)

This is what I would expect. Tuq seems kind of silly and not very serious. Don't mean that in a bad way. Just like a fun-loving guy kind of way.

First, heart Ryanfan. He and I had some great post exchanges about wine back in the day.

And I don't know if it was between them, but I do recall intensely disliking JoA back in the day and being vocal against him being a SE mod, fairly or unfairly, probably somewhere closer to unfairly.

It is sort of funny thinking that at one point this forum only had one mod and that one was nolanfan.
