So, nothing.

On a semi-related note, how would you guys feel if we made STST open season for trolling between teams as long as things didn't cross into personal attacks? Benefit being it would set the tone that that is what is to be expected of that subforum, and we wouldn't really police it other than people crossing the line?
This is different than the current policy how? Look at the aforementioned G10's work in the Indians thread for which he was never banned for any reasonable length of time IIRC.

what is the point of allowing a perma'd poster to come back under another name?

Was posting an idea that Clark had emailed the other SE mods about, and it looks like I actually misunderstood what he was saying as he emailed me for clarification. I should have said, how would you feel if we went the exact opposite way and banned for everyone who went into another teams thread for the purpose of trolling? Basically team threads are for fans of that team only, and if you cross into another team's thread, expect to get the banhammer.

We'll see what happens if it happens. It has had some positive effects in some cases in the past and in others not so much.

I'm for that idea in general, however, I have been posting in the Red Sox thread despite being someone who despises them - simply because gehrig and a few other smart posters can be found there. (None of my posts are inflammatory.) I assume this would be fine?

But I would like an answer to nutshot's question. Just look at the number of bans he accumulated - how is this not a lifetime achievement award? Bitchface/TheUntouchable (I have no personal opinion of him) was more or less a single catastrophic event that got him the axe. GREEAR too, to a degree - but his ban history indicates he should have been gone a long time ago. Far, far more have been banned permanently for much, much less.

i'm not asking in greear's specific case, i'm asking in more of a theoretical sense.

thats seems like a terrible idea, imo. I dont post in team threads that much so I'm sure my opinion doesnt matter. A major concern would be determining who is a fan of what team. For instance, what if a mod forgets what team jetto has been rooting for this month and bans him on accident?

On the STST stuff, two very different philosophies, but I think it would be wise for us to choose one or the other and make that official policy, as this gray area we've operated is pretty clearly not working so well. So looking for opinions I guess on which you guys would prefer, as I (and I'm sure the rest of the SE mods) are open to going either way with it.

everyone should have to declare their allegiances before being allowed to post in STT, kinda like when you register to vote

Yes, that would be considered fine.

For the record, I recommend G10 a true permaban for SE main forum, but allowed to post in just Detroit/Michigan STST threads after a 2-month ban.

And since everyone gets so butthurt about cross STST thread appearances by rivals, I say that other than my annual early season lol cubs post in the Cubs STST thread, all trolling in STST threads is a ban. And trolling basically would be defined as "anything negative or talking junk related".

If you're saying in other forums on 2+2 you're probably correct, but we've been pretty lenient over the entire history of SE in handing out permabans. That's just the way we've always chosen to operate, and in general its kept us free from the uproars of FREE POSTER X!!!

People get more butthurt about posters contaminating their precious STST thread than for any other reason in SE. It's lame, but its what the people want.

I like your suggestion very much. I'd even think that vacating his ban immediately for STST threads would be fine.

1. FREE MAGGERT

2. Don't like the 'can't be negative in a team thread' proposal. How lame is that? The ND thread has been greatly improved by the haters, for example.

I know admins have been reluctant to add an exile feature for any forum other than OOT. If you really want to police him to this level, I'm fine with that idea.

It's super lame. But it's by far the #1 reported post notification we get. This is why we can't have nice things. People get very pissy about their little safe havens.

N2,

We as a group are I think by far the most transparent mods on the site. Also the most lenient, though admittedly that can lead to incidents like Sunday, which is at least partly our fault.

i don't think i need to weigh in here, but yeah, clark's policy is best. allowing trolling in STST means trolls will come in all the time, turn the entire thread against him, then people from that thread go troll the troll's team thread - it's really stupid.
