I saw Moneyball Saturday at a TIFF screening and posted this in OOT.

Moneyball: I have two major problems with Moneyball a lot of the expository dialogue is cringeworthy and feels like it was copied right out of Baseball Between the Numbers. The second is they paint Billy Beane as this intuitive genius who shoots from the gut and is right, which is anti-thetical to the strategy they are trying to show Billy implement. It's very uneven, but is definitely worth seeing, I think non-baseball fans will like it more than baseball fans. The script is good, but outside of a couple scenes it doesn't feel very Sorkiny, which is nice. They have nice little touches for sports fans re: using actual player names and stuff.
This is basically the exact opposite of Moneyball, so it's a little upsetting they implemented that in the movie.

It didn't.

As Lewis himself has said, it sold very few copies upon release. Lewis-ites like myself bought it, a few baseball/econ people, and I think he even said it was his 2nd worst seller of all his major books. [That may have changed obvs since the Pitt previews came out]. It's only #5 at Amazon among baseball books right now which seems lol low given the press for the film.

I can find the int'vw for you, but I'm too lazy.

Thedeezy definitely cheats in WWF, so far in our game he's used YAGI and LABARUMS. And I still consistently beat the kid.

you know that jeter comment was true and ol' luther did throw that word around like nuthin but i regret saying "u would be hard pressed to meet a more racist man" or w/e i said. that's not at all true. u know the history of jim crow and racism in the south and the guy was close to 50 when mix marriage was still illegal in virginia. he saw a lot of hell courtesy of the war and the japanese that affected his views as well. but its not like anything beyond that. once while christmas shopping at the mall he had like a 20 min conversation with a very old black man and it was like they were best pals. its a strange thing for us but its truly a different world he grew up in.

yeah i was coming off a four day bender when i wrote that so i do regret that part but not the bender man the gorilla finally took a break from fin me and anatta made a break for it.

I don't know who used QUEUES, but they're cheating.

By wwf standards, queues is a pretty normal word imo

Here to defend my honor:

Basically play a **** ton of games against random people all the time and try to remember odd words they use.

Got Zoeae dropped on me for 150 somethin, so soulcrushed when that happened

ZOEAE is a play that any serious scrabble/WWF player would know

also why cheat, why not just play LABRUMS

because LABARUMS is a bingo

so is LABRUMS, ldo, either hooking to TRAMP or FORGET. altho the WWF board seems pretty rigged, so maybe those aren't higher scoring plays.

labrums hooking to TRAMP exposes triple word tile; hooking to FORGET opens up 3 double word tiles - giving the opponent 2 DW tiles to your 1 after you play your word

not that i think anyone actually considers this stuff

Game was awesome. Had to build queues so people had a place to wait to ride my suicide coasters.

serious/pro scrabblists are laughable. they learn words not knowing the meaning.

I had a math teacher that bragged about going to scrabble tournies all the time and memorizing the spelling of every word in the dictionary. She still had problems forming neat sentences/was the opposite of a wordsmith
