Someone just lost their invitation to my Atlantic City bash. It's easier getting into Providence with one less dude anyway.

No sign of Phildo since the 4th and Sethy since the 5th.

Didn't Sethy get married? Hmmm

The ones who go out of their way to check out Radiohead usually do.

Argh, really? APC put on a much better show then Tool, and if we're being really, really generous to them, we give them what, 2 "great" albums?

Even bands like Spoon and The Hold Steady have a better claim to the best artist of our generation then Tool, and that is clearly ludicrous.

You don't have to go out of your way to listen to Radiohead, especially in a generation when no one listens to FM/MTV isn't musically relevant. When they announced In Rainbows/The King of Limbs my FB and Twitter activity was only surpassed by Kanye dissing T-Swift and the deaths of MJ/Osama.

OK Computer came out in 1997. Things were different then. Radiohead is much bigger now, and yeah, my FB/twitter blew up too, but there's also a selection bias towards "people likely to be fans of Radiohead" there.

Even if you don't like their music you got to give them props for doing what they want musically for such a huge band. They aren't concerned with selling records, rather they make whatever they want. It helps they do everything though, but still I think its cool they don't pander to radio or tv.

That's just the thing though. Radiohead has a huge fanbase among the 18-25 College crowd, and they were all too young to remember when OK Computer came out.

I don't really know where I'm going with that, but I think Radiohead and Modest Mouse are the only shows you can go to now and have an average age of like ~22 despite each band both being at their peak in popularity, having been around for 15-20 years and achieving their critical peak around 10-15 years ago. From my experience anyway.

radiohead is like an extremely poor man's version of Ween, minus the sense of humor

anyway I feel like the best policy re: radiohead is to ignore the zealots on both sides. they're a fine musical outfit but I don't really get the greatest of our generation thing

Tool is the closest thing this generation has seen to a must-see big ticket band imo, like Floyd and Zeppelin were in the 70's if you had a chance. Musicianship is top notch, they've pushed their own boundaries with their album progression, and they haven't really become stale through anything of their own doing.

Yeah, part of the mystique is because they only put out an album every 4-5 years, but so what? I don't want to hear stuff from a band until they're ready and committed. In an era where it's so easy to suffer from overexposure and overproliferation, Tool avoids falling into that trap.

ldo I'm biased because the big Rush/King Crimson/Yes fan in me absolutely loves the complexity and chops, but I really do think in Tool's case, they live up to the immense hype and deliver the goods. Their Amiphtheatre show in '06 on the 10,000 Days tour is still one of my greatest concert moments ever. Just an amazing production.

To each their own, but in the past 3-4 years I've been able to see basically every band I wanted too except Radiohead and Pavement. Tool had the worst set/show of them all. But every friend I have who has seen them on shrooms had a great ****ing time.

APC was equal or better then Tool as musicians. I was more impressed with APC, Iha and Lenchantin were really impressive, but if I say this and don't have some huge hard-on for Carey tool fans go insane. I'd say the lineup top to bottom is more impressive for APC (and many other bands, but obviously the direct comparison with the same lead). If you want to start a set with a 13 minute track, at least bands like The Mars Volta and Sigur Ros have energy. Closest show to Tool is Godspeed. Nice to be able to say you've seen them, then when you're leaving you have to make a conscious decision in your head if you want to lie to everyone online and irl telling them how awesome it was when it was just pretty cool and something to cross off your bucket list.

Disparaging GYBE! and Tool in the same post will make anyone reading this post on Acid hate me at least.
