I watched the first season of The Wire and thought it was pretty good. Watched the first ep of the second season - but I didn't get really sucked into the whole dockworker thing. Does it get better? I just imagined scene after scene of that annoying kid who pulled out his penis at the bar getting his buddies into trouble.

Wire fanboiz making a case to be up there with Lakers and Steelers.

I've heard people say the first season was a little slow but it picks up after that. So I was expecting that but just didn't get sucked into the dockworkers. I'm asking to be sold on it here and join your legions.

-The first episode of the Wire can be a tricky watch, as the show pretty much never spells things out for you easily, but if you think it plain sucked, you should probably get a frontal lobotomy so you don't have to engage in paying attention or thinking critically anymore.

-Season two is a decided change of pace and can be off-putting to people who were expecting more of the same, but stick with it-- it's worth it and you can't tell the whole story of Baltimore without telling the story of the docks. "All the pieces matter."

Go back and watch the first episode of the Sopranos. It wasn't exactly the best hour in the history of tv either. Give the Wire a chance.

Another contributing factor might be I watched the first season doing cardio on my iPad at the gym. So I'm sure I'm missing some of the experience. Also I don't know if wrenching drama is the best fit for cardio. Mindless heart-pumping stuff like Surviving the Cut seems to work a lot better. I just wish it had more episodes. Wipeout is pretty good too.

you were doing cardio while watching the wire? psh. everyone knows that the best situation to watch the wire is while 12-tabling SNGs.

Season 2 is just complete unabashed awesomeness and there's really not a whole lot else to say.

Basically all the complaining I ever heard about it was wahhhhhh white people wahhhhhhhh new characters wahhhhhh Ziggy irritates me which are the worst complaints ever.

lol

seriously, though, as much as I use TV for background entertainment, The Wire is one of the few shows that always takes first priority when I have it on.

I actually leave my Wire series box set at my girlfriend's place so I always have something to do if her and her roommate want to watch stupid crap. Best believe I'm going in thurr firebombing if we break up and she tries to hold it hostage.

Well it works when they're watching Glee and Gossip Girl and I can just slip on my headphones and drift into slangin' bliss on my laptop. Over time it's definitely worth the $1xx price tag if she wants to play hardball.

humour is lolbad
