this is inevitable. it gets tiresome to explain the same things to different people over and over, eventually it just turns a person into a troll. still, instead of going to the meme bag, the response should be to not post anything a larger % of the time.

there's a relatively high barrier to entry wrt sports 'knowledge' on this forum.

edit: bowens, you may not have articulated that perfectly, but we are in effect saying the same thing.

Yeah, T36. And therein lies the problem with such a great sports forum like this. It's been so good that some of us have stuck around for years. And years, and years in some cases. So, yes, we're bound to have some of the same discussions over and over. New people show up, and want to ask questions. I understand that it gets tiresome, to explain things over and over, and I don't know if there's a solution to all of this, but it does kinda suck.

The latest NBA draft thread is a great example. Couple of new folks in that, and they are just getting abused because they don't agree with the folks that have been around.

Uh, dude. The last NBA draft thread has gone very well. I highly doubt there are any hurt feelings there - the newer guys seem to be embracing it. Bad example IMO

My complaint is that they second part of your post is starting to happen in other threads, where it hadn't happened before. TZ was terrible last year because there was too much bloggin going on. That's largely stopped this year but the void left behind had been filled with memes and as such.its totally permeated into the rest of the forum. Let's try stopping that and see where the forum heads.

i meant needle, seth and triumph.

needle is proly the worst. his posts the last few years fall into like 3 categories: defending a crappy modding decision and saying his the most hands off mod (despite contrary evidence.) bitching about the "old days." or acting drunk emo and lamenting 4loco.

seth trolls with his modding by making uneven and heavyhanded decisions and baiting posts. i havent seen him provide much content in recent months, mebbe he does for soccertards.

triumph posts are primarily shots at tz. mebbe its different in nhl or mlb or whatever his hom base is. dunno why he has so much animosity. its not like he was ostracized or ridiculed. triumph, if ya wanna talk some nba you will be included bra!

the notion that tz is overrun by this memetarding is pretty much false. esp in recent months. but i understand you gotta find something to bitch about.

Yeah, the memetarding has mostly overrun a few drafts. I agree that something needs to be done, but I think it could be taken care of pretty easily by banning a couple people that have become terrible.

.5% of my posts are shots at tz. any time i have interacted with the main members of tz, they've rubbed me the wrong way. if the tz AIDS didn't spread, i wouldn't really care, but it has spread to drafts and NFL discussion and so forth.

Reality is, if this hypothetical league existed, someone would finish last...

That's on the last page. I didn't go back to the destruction of Assani's trade partner.

List of people itt(for maximum drama) or via PM(for minimal drama). It'd be nice to know who people view as the source of problems.

well, tbf, epi is actually correct here. kowboys made laughable analysis. he got called out on it. htf are we supposed to respond? the response wasnt even that caustic.

Oh, I don't know, maybe refute a point or two at least, before you just laugh and say lol.

Again, I'm not saying Kowboys was correct in his analysis or anything.

Hey bowens, you seem like a nice enough guy. I also get the impression we (we=old SE guard I suppose to put it oddly, so you, me, victor, etc) have had this debate several times.

Imo it all boils down to "being nice", civility, and a general appreciation for humankind vs. "Being right", understanding, and a greater appreciation for knowing.

Basically, I agree-the tone towards newcomers tends to be harsh. (Although in that example I don't think anyone was particularly violent or anything towards kowboys) however, most of us don't care-he made bad points, therefore "we" felt he was deserving of scorn.

I try to be civil towards new guys, but that doesn't mean ill go out of my way to excuse ignorance. In other words, if one posts ******edly, they get called a ******.

Here's the thing, and don't take this personally because this doesn't pertain to you specifically- there was once a time when we all were "ignorant" because we didn't know some of the things we know now. I doubt any of the TZ regs were born with the knowledge that 3-year APM is great or that TS% > FG%. Just because you've had more opportunities to accrue knowledge doesn't mean you're better than someone who's behind on the curve.

People who HIV up threads with trolling deserve to be called out, but people who genuinely believe that Kobe > Bron probably shouldn't be called a ******.

That being said, the impression that TZ absolutely destroys newcomers is overstated.

Yeah if some random casual fan strolls into TZ spewin nonsense about Landry Fields > Amare, there is nothing wrong with some OG SE'r like Bobbo laying the smackdpwn and calling them ******ed.

See Bobbo, I was actually going to use you as a good example. I have no issue with tone or harshness or whatever. For the most part, you at least explain your position, and dole out the insult. I think that's good. Too many have just settled for dishing out the insult. I think that's bad.

Well anyway, I just sent an e-mail out to the SE mo.ds so we can more thoroughly discuss what to do and how to best do it. I was too lazy to do it over the weekend. There may also be a separate (temoporary) sticky for this to gather input, we'll see.

im still confused as to what the "problem" is. i just looked at the last like 10 pages of tz and there is less than 1 memetard per page. oh wells. perception>>>>>reality. and ppl obv like having a whipping oby to bitch and complain about.
