IRMAIDS update:
Still no power at my house. Since I have well water, that means no water either. Fortunately the GF got power back at her house last night so after 3 days I was finally able to take a hot shower.
We threw out 3 garbage bags full of food from her fridge and freezer, and about 2 from mine. GF's house had no damage, just a bunch of limbs and leaves. As for my place, two sections of my back fencing were knocked down by winds, but the real issue is that my roof is now all ****ed up. A bunch of shingles were torn away. It looks like someone did a half-assed job of scaling a fish. I'm going to have to have a new roof. Also TIL what a "hurricane deductible" is, it's 2% of the total value of the policy payout so there's no ****ing way I'm going to be able to get a new roof through insurance so I guess I'm ****ed? I'll be Blue Tarp guy for the foreseeable future. My house will have zero resale value until I can afford the hurricane deductible (or I pay for a new roof myself, whichever comes first). I've heard that if you live in a federal disaster area you can get your mortgage payments deferred for up to 3 months, I'm going to try to go that route and use the funds for the roof. I have not spoken to the lender yet so idk if this is even a thing, but I've been told by 2 realtors that it is so we will see.
Everyone is alive and otherwise OK. It could have been much worse for us here, like it was for the people on the coast & in the islands. Those poor people
. I almost feel bad complaining about my problems, but then is it ever OK to complain since someone always has it worse? But anyway I'm over FL, this is like the 9th time I have had to deal with this **** in the 13+ years I've lived down here and I am long past done. I'll be selling the house if I can ever put a roof on it and looking at moving out of state, most likely west, maybe back to Denver or possible CA or the Pac NW or Basically Anywhereville That Doesn't Have To Deal With Hurricanes.
One of the more striking things is how I've completely lost track of time. I legit did not know what day it was yesterday when I woke up. As cell service was also out or nearly-out we pretty much didn't have contact with the outside world for like a day and a half. It was a really weird feeling.
