If by quants you mean High Frequency Trading, then yeah I think that has put in huge risks of systemic failure. In today's marketplace, everything is traded off of correlations and relationships, which is pretty far from the original intent of the Stock Market and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and other marketplaces. With everything so closely tied together, one error in an algorithm or one bad input can move the market in such a big way that it creates a massive systemic risk for everybody.
I know this is a tangent of a tangent, but i've been meaning to invest in the CMEX for a while now but know basically nothing about it, any advice for getting started?

It's a pretty elite place. On black Friday all their waitresses were wearing black lingerie. Dear Lord. I went in there but it was like a 40 minute wait and I was starving so we ate next door instead. I still got to perve on a few of them and took some mental snapshots to be deposited at the ARC Spank Bank, N.A.

As we were walking out there was like a 10 year old boy sitting on the bench waiting next to his dad who had his mouth agape and looked like it was Christmas morning.

Better ambiance, better food, and better costumes than Hooters all for similar prices afaict.

My only Hooters experience was with my dad and uncle when I was ten or twelve. Just horrifying all around, even deciding whether to say yes or no when they asked if I wanted to go. Just constantly out leveling myself on IF YOU DO THIS OR DON'T DO THAT THEY'LL THINK IT MEANS YOU'RE GAY

There is a hooters by my house that is basically my only bar choice outside of glory days (well other than your standard chain Applebees chilis etc).

Talent kinda sucks but there are a few hot chicks. Usually go after golf.

Their tots app is awesome tho

Anyone watch Conan?

Kei$ha was on and she said that she is making a bra out of human teeth (sent to her by fans) and that she once went to the "bone zone" with a ghost.

Yeah was watching that. Just unreal. You get the sense when she leaves a room there's 5 seconds of silence followed by someone saying "The **** just happened?"

You know what really impressed me about Twin Peaks, in terms of size, quality, and quantity?

Spoiler:
the TVs

lollll

they knew obv. i mean not really. but maybe subconsciously.

on another note, it makes me feel pretty old to hear people talk about their first simpsons episode being something that late (although i guess now that's only 1/3 of the way through the show's run)

reminds me of some story i read (probably from alan sepinwall) where maestro harrell (randy wagstaff) was surprised to find out the simpsons wasn't just a thing that existed in perpetuity and that there was in fact a time when it was not on the air

They sacrifice battery life so that you don't have to carry a huge phone.

Phone makers are putting the best batteries they can in phones. It's definitely not an area where they cut corners.

Good point. However it happens, would be nice for better battery life to be implemented. Thought it was a cost issue, but maybe not. I just want to be able to be out for 12 hours or so and not have to bring a charger.

shorter battery life in smartphones is annoying but, for me, more than made up for by the fact that pretty much everyone owns an iphone charger. only 2 types of chargers covering the vast majority of new phones is an underrated development iyam. has also saved me a ton of money as someone who frequently forgets chargers in transit.

Was discussing Twin Peaks w/someone last week because we have those out here. I was informed that the women have to sign model-type contracts in which they can be terminated if they don't stay within certain weight or BMI parameters. Which is unsurprising because almost all the women are super hot (the ones that aren't are still regular hot), and they also have noticeably fewer ******ed tattoos than Tilted Kilt or Hooters. I wonder if that type of verbiage can be worked into prenups.

weight restrictions can be included in prenups, but they're more likely to be upheld if they're tied to penalties in property division rather than as cause for divorce.

Thanks. Marriage is still for suckers but at least it's good to know that penalties can be levied if she blows up like Syria.

how do you guys have such issues with battery life on phones? I can regularly go from charging my phone on thursday night through the whole weekend and not charging again til sunday night while keeping it on and using it as normal. The iphone 5 I got was charged at work on Monday morning and I haven't charged it since and I appear to be around 50% battery left.

Most people don't just use their phone as a paperweight like you apparently do.
