FIFA finally cracking down on people being paid money for favours...

Spoiler:
Zimbabwe have been expelled from the qualifying competition for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after not paying an outstanding debt to their former coach.

The African country had been given several deadlines and warnings by Fifa to settle the debt with the Brazilian José Claudinei Georgini, nicknamed Valinhos, who managed the national team from January to November 2008.

The Zimbabwe Football Association has not paid up, however, and has now been expelled from the tournament.

A Fifa statement said: “The Fifa disciplinary committee today notified the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) that it was expelled from the preliminary competition of the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia.”

Pots for Round 2 draw in Asia. Draw is on the 14th. Bhutan made it into Pot 4

I live in Perth. For those who have seen a map of Australia, it is the most isolated city in the world, and we rarely get Australia home games, and have to travel 2000km+ to Melbourne or Sydney for games.

We have been promised a game for the next round of qualifiers. Unfortunately, it is against the pot 5 team and on a Thursday night. I can't wait until this game gets 12,000 only, and the Socceroos don't play in Perth for another ten years.

Home game against Cambodia yay!!!

Also, the Asian Cup is expanding to 24 teams for the next edition (I can't for the life of me understand why, 16 was perfect) and this group stage doubles as qualification for the 2019 Asian Cup to be held in the UAE. Teams that make the third round (group winners plus four runner ups) will automatically qualify to the Asian Cup. If UAE aren't one of the twelve teams, which is probably a 50-50 chance, then 11 spots will be available for direct qualification.

I for one am happy that we have to play less games against those weaker teams having to do two lots of qualifying ever four years, and can instead have a longer qualifying for the WC to reduce variance.

Bump. Canada will play their first WCQ match @Dominica in just over three hours from this post.

Also, the first matchday of AFC qualifying borought a few surprises, like the 1-0 of Guam against Turkmenistan and the 2-1 of Philippines against Bahrain, and Timor-Leste getting a 1-1 draw in Malaysia.

ashley is trying to paint this like you should feel sorry for Perth. If you've been there, you will understand why nobody ever goes there and why this is completely normal and just.
