I have over 50 days of gameplay time on football manager 09, does that make me qualified?
07-15-2009 , 07:56 PM
meh, I think you've played 50 too many days.

of course, you want in?

Assuming you do your own tactics, it will probably make you good at seeing how different playing styles fit together and how to compose a team with a certain style in mind. But you'd probably be at a disadvantage if you don't watch or follow a lot of European soccer when it comes to judging the ability of current players, how they play, how they compare to players from other leagues, etc. You'd still have a lot of fun if you were to do this though, as you've played so much FM, since this is basically playing with an FM team after it got taken over by a rich Arab sheikh.

How do you change your formation in PFM?
07-15-2009 , 08:10 PM
So are we settled on:

1 season (next year)
No managers
24 time limit (assumption)
Mandatory write ups
PM the next person up after you pick

What other rules should we add (or different from those I listed) so everyone is on the same page? Always best to take care of these things in the beginning.

Also, if you haven't done one of these before, it is expected for you to try and get your picks up quickly when you are on 2p2.

And if you don't know if you'll be able to get on (mostly) everyday to check if you're up to make your pick, get a co-owner.

Stars denote those who requested a co-owner.

DK, I was just joking with you.

Some other rules. You have 12 hours to make a pick, then we move on.

Also, don't talk about players yet to be drafted ITT.
07-15-2009 , 08:34 PM
If we end with this list it will be 25 teams. I guess thats not too bad, a bit more than preferred, but not too bad either. Those requesting co-owners should talk with people ITT who requested one, or maybe try to team up with someone else. Lets get this sorted out, we have 6.5 hours. If co-owners aren't sorted, I will assign the teams, just to condense this down slightly.
07-15-2009 , 08:37 PM
I think picks should be 24 bc of all the crazy euros ITT
07-15-2009 , 08:39 PM
I agree. Everyone should try and get their picks in ASAP but I think 24 hours works better.
07-15-2009 , 08:40 PM
hmmmm ok, good point. 24 pick times. If you miss it, then the next team can select whenever they are ready. If your team misses a pick, you can make it up whenever, but obviously the sooner the better for you.

Did we have a write up thread for the EPL draft? I looked for it to find examples to show people but no luck.

Write ups should be mandatory with your pick. So when you make your pick you post your write up. If you are in a time pinch then you can just announce your pick to move things along but write ups need to be made.
07-15-2009 , 08:52 PM
yeah write ups are mandatory IMO. The first round is probably totally straight forward, but later rounds it is a must. Include a pic too!
07-15-2009 , 08:58 PM
google spreadsheet is key also.

Here is an example of a good writeup:

Naismith Award (1975)
ACC Athlete of the Year (1973, 1975)
ACC Player of the Year (1973, 1974, 1975)
MVP of 1974 NCAA Tournament
Winner of every major NPOY award in 1975

For the first pick on my team, I’m going with David “Skywalker” Thompson.

Thompson played at NC State for three seasons – freshmen were ineligible to play varsity basketball at the time – and left quite the legacy for himself. Thompson won ACC Player of the Year in all three of his seasons at NC State and led the Wolfpack to a record of 79-7 during his career including a 27-0 record in his sophomore season (NC State was ineligible for postseason play) and then a 30-1 record during his junior season in which NC State won the National Championship, temporarily halting the UCLA dynasty.

Thompson gained the nickname “Skywalker” for his insane vertical leap which was said to be 48-inches. Thompson and an NC State teammate were also said to have invented the alley-oop pass in an attempt to take full advantage of Thompson’s insane leaping ability. Unfortunately at the time, the dunk was banned in college basketball so Thompson was forced to finish these alley-oops with layups instead of thunderous dunks.

In eighty-six career games, Thompson averaged 26.8 ppg and 8.1 rpg. Here are his year by year averages:

72-73: 24.7ppg, 8.1rpg, 56.9% FG, 82.5% FT
73-74: 26.0ppg, 7.9rpg, 54.7% FG, 74.5% FT
74-75: 29.9ppg, 8.2rpg, 54.6% FG, 73.1% FT

Thompson is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best college basketball player of all time. In an article appearing in Sports Illustrated a few years ago, Thompson was one of four players nominated for best college basketball player of all time and the only one listed who is eligible for this draft (Alcindor, Russell, Turasi – lolz). A quote about Thompson from a man who is eligible for this draft and widely regarded as the greatest player of all time:

Obviously, due to the rules of this draft I will be taking Thompson in his Senior season.

Team So Far

- David Thompson
Just follow that template. Round/pick #, Name/position, picture, and then write up with your team at the bottom.

Explain why you picked him, why he is a good pick, stats, accolades, etc. It is basically your main argument as to why you picked him, why he is a good player, and why you think he is a good pick for your team.

IS there a good statistical database for soccer players, something akin to baskteballreference.com? I know there are way fewer stats, obviously, but something with match ratings would be nice.
07-15-2009 , 09:19 PM
good question, and not something I can answer. ESPN has probably the easiest website to navigate for finding players and teams, but they don't always have stats for all the leagues/players.

No naming undrafted players please
07-15-2009 , 09:32 PM
Rooney
07-15-2009 , 09:32 PM
Don't worry, he won't be drafted anyway.
07-15-2009 , 09:33 PM
ldo, not world class
07-15-2009 , 09:41 PM
I think he(along with anyone playing in EPL, La Liga, etc.) is world class.
07-15-2009 , 10:18 PM
Sure the average la liga player is world class, but Wayne Rooney is not.
07-15-2009 , 11:07 PM
Ugh i guess i'll have to withdraw this will probably take too long for me ,next month i'm going to Portugal
i'll follow closely tho

everyone in this should write a little something to begin about where you from, how close do you follow football, who's your club (even if it's obvious for some) etc
