Spain might play the Copa America this year because we are missing one team. If they do the tournament suddenly becomes epic.

I heard they are out and Costa Rica are the most likely candidates. It would be too ridiculous if they became the WC,EC and CA champions at the same time anyway.

I don't believe Lucas > Neymar already. He is unbelievable. They were Brazils best players when they played together but Neymar was a class above.

I agree with that actually. Neymar > Lucas

Lately they have been playing abt the same but overall Neymar is better.

Spain could field a B side and still have a preety good team. The problem is I dont see the clubs being too thrilled about their players playing La Copa América.
Imo Copa America should be the 10 teams in 2 groups and lets get it on.

How could Spain play the Copa America? This is just a rumour right?
Soccer/Football random discussion & other leagues thread Quote

Yes they won't play. Costa Rica most likely will.

What happens is there are 10 teams in Conmebol and they want to make 3 groups of 4 so they invite two teams. This year they invited Mexico and Japan and the latter just withdrew from the competition because of the natural disasters there so one spot opened up.

Why not just do 2 groups of 5? I thought Mexico always played? Their clubs play in the Copa Libertadores after all and it just seems to make sense culturally/geographically and otherwise. Japan though? Random!

Mexico is pretty much always invited. The other team invited varies. I remember Japan and USA playing before.

Mexican teams have only been playing on the libertadores for a few years.

The spanish federation is saying they are going to analyze the invitation which is why we are all excited.

costa rica have played a decent amount in it and if spain plays then i might die of joy, even if its an u23 team...

The Copa America would lose some credibility in my eyes if Spain played in it. You cannot have a European Country participate in that tournament.

Its already not THAT credible. Mainly due to some of the teams not always taking it so seriously. No reason it shouldn't be like the Euros (Which I consider to be like a mini-WC) imo so its strange.

I, for one, would love to see brazil/argentina - spain

WC qualification > winning Copa America. I mean its still fun but seriously the real deal is when we start playing for the wc spots.

Why should this be though? I assure you the European countries don't think the same way about their championship. In fact as I alluded to before its practically considered a Jr. WC. Qualification for it takes the same length of time as WC qualification. We have 2 major tournaments every 4 years rather than 1. I see no reason why South America should be different.

I'd like to see Canada get the final Copa America spot. Pretty sure no one would have any objections to that ..

I dont know, its just the way it is. First of all there is no qualification, second players get in trouble with their clubs and many prefer not to play it.

I think its just a cultural thing, also almost every country has won it ( except Ecuador, Venezuela and Chile).

I dont as long as they bring the best possible squad. I think we should merge the concacaf cup and the conmebol cup and have a true copa america with the 10 conmebol teams and the 6 teams that qualified to the final round of the qualies.
