variance : had my first ever pitch invasion at brentford yesterday.

Was the last home game of the season so they kept warning evry1 that they would nick you if u went on. all the filth were covering the home stands but they completely forgot the hereford fans down the other end who had just got promoted and going mental so they started goin on the pitch. the police ****ed off down the other end so we all joined in too!

was the most mad 2 minutes of my life, dodging coppers and running round with my mate not knowing where to go.

Somebody made the point about the kids of poorer nations never being without a football and it follows that these nations would have a better chance of producing real talent over the developed countries, Whos kids play PES 08 instead.

Africa made the decision to hold their African Nations cup every 2 years instead of every 4 and this looks to be having a positive effect.

Given those couple of points, oh plus the number of European teams with training academys in Africa now, can we revise Peles prediction?

Incidently, excuse my ignorance, do the USA play in the Copa America or some other international tournement I never heard of? thanks

this is only half true. the US hasn't played in Copa America that much and last year it was pointless as we didn't send a worthy side for it

I personally have believed that CONMEBOL and CONCACAF should join forces for an Americas Cup to replace the Gold Cup and Copa America. Both sides would profit from doing this, and it would be a great competetive tournament

I don't think Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire are far from the world powerhouses in attacking talent. Their defense and goalkeeping isn't quite up to par.

2010 will be a big year for Africa. If the right teams qualify then I think they'll have a decent chance of placing a team in the semi-finals for the first time.

If I had to guess which team outside of Europe and South America will first win the World Cup, I would say Mexico. This generation of players is the first to play extensively in Europe and their youth teams have been successful. Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and the United States deserve mention as well.

I think that the Cote d'Ivoire needs to prove themselves a bit more to be thrown into this discussion as they've come on more recently then anything. Of the african nations that have a chance to go deep in the 2010 WC, it has to be nigeria and cameroon and Nigeria has been on the cusp for a long time, and like you said, its the defending that is their undoing

At this point though, I don't think that any nation outside of South America or Europe has the ability to win a WC. There's just such a divide at this point money wise which can hinder nations while the talent gap certainly has been shrinking

How could this possibly be true when Nigeria are so clearly inferior to both Cameroon and Ivory Coast? In 2 years suddenly they will be the biggest challengers for the WC out of the African teams? Come on man, the Super Eagles finest generation has come and gone, they may be a top side again in the future but that's gonna be more than 2 years away.

I don't see how money has much at all to do with International football? Brazil has been one of the most bankrupt countries in the world for a long long time, Argentina hasn't been far behind, and of all the European countries, Italy has been just about the most shambolic financially post-war.

That said, the World Cup in South Africa may just break the mould. It will be like a home game for any of the African nations, if they can just pull their organisation together to go with their talent then a win is possible, but I would agree there's no realistic prospect of anyone winning on European or South American soil in the near future.

I didn't say that Nigeria would be the biggest challengers, just one of them. Lets also be honest, 2 years in international football is a long time and 4 years is almost an eternity. Its impossible to predict who will be the favorites when qualification hasn't even happened yet

No it isn't. Favourites will be Brazil, followed by Argentina, and probably Germany/Italy more or less equal behind that.

Brazil and Argentina were supported for a very long time by their military governments, so money wasn't an issue. Theres also the fact that those two nations have generally been an anomoly in that there is just soooo much talent that comes from them and consistently

The difference with Italy has been that their clubs are rich, so the FA has been saved because of that fact

Either Brazil or Argentina will win.

It's very simple. When the WC is held in Europe, an European nation wins. When the WC is helf outside Europe, either Brazil or Argentina win.

This pattern has a 100% success rate since 1962.

Please guys, don't lump Brazil and Argentina together when talking about consistent success. Brazil have been favorites every single World Cup. Argentina comes far behind.

Wrong. Until Sweden they were a non-factor.

Fatshaft, There was something missing from your youth I am sure.

Brasil being the only team to win it outside of their own continent shows what a massive achievement that is. Can you see a European side doing this? Given that the top African players are playing in Europe now I think its more likely an African nation will do it first. But I quite like the fact that only Brasil have done it. It sets them apart from the rest and they deserve to be in their own bracket. Awesome, awesome sides.
