I do think he's getting pretty frustrated about recently being trumped in the transfer market by Madrid, City, and PSG. He's just lashing out now, probably trying to drum up interest for the IPO since he's such a loyal Glazer foot soldier.
They didn't come out of left field because Arsenal confirmed we'd made a bid before he made any comment on it, once they decided to make it public he's not really under the same obligation to stay quiet out of respect for Arsenal.

That Swansea team is getting ripped apart, Rodgers, Allen and Sigurdsson. Sinclair still might get a move as well.

Okay, lets just say it came across as really desperate. They bid, we immediately threw it in the garbage and he hasn't heard from Arsenal in weeks (presumably). Should be obvious they have zero interest in selling him to United unless they can absolutely fleece United.

He'll probably turn on the Berba juice and pander to him in the press until Aug 30th.

Can you imagine RVP going to the Emirates in a United shirt next season. Holy **** that would be incredible. Fergie and Wenger have been such huge rivals over the years but poaching your best player would just be too good to be true. Just no coming back on Fergie from Wenger if it happens. Totally owned beyond belief.

He'll probably ruptured his hammy the game before it.

As long as he accumulates enough games for us to qualify for a league winners medal he'll be fine.

They've sold plenty of player's to City so selling to Utd is now in the same ballpark, and bottom line if RVP doesn't wanna join Juve and has chosen Utd he get's sold rather than move for nothing next summer, regardless of how much interest Wenger has in selling to United.

I'm sure he'll be happy with that when he watches City collect #2 in a row.

City are also willing to overpay for said players. We got a killing for Ade, Toure, and Nasri.

I would agree that if United are willing to offer 20m+, it probably happens. Too good to pass up.

That said, I won't be surprised at all if we keep him for one more year and let him walk for free.

eta: Its easier to accept one more year out of a player and let them leave for free when they are hitting 30, than it is when the player in question is 23 (or whatever Nasri's age was).

More to lose in that case, so if he's not coming back you take the money and move on. When a player is in his prime, you take that last season more often than not unless some stupid offer comes in.

IMO

Good to see Arsenal fans believe in their team! Season hasn't even started yet and he's already conceded the title!

We are 4th fav going in, so why should I be confident of winning the title?

lol I love it, you act optimistic you get the "boom bust" you acted realistic and you get "you don't believe in your team" don't get but-hurt because united are slowly getting left behind in the transfer market.

You won't be surprised if you keep him for another season, when has any major club kept a player in his prime for the last year of his deal and let him go for free?

Our Board will never let this happen especially with our activity this summer

Bayern, Ballack

That wasn't even your question.

Anyway, IIRC Chelsea wanted Ballack as soon as right after the EURO 2004, but we didn't sell him, so he went for free in 2006.

It's pretty obvious I'm trying to highlight how unlikely it is that RVP will stay for another year, the Pirlo situation isn't anything like the RVP one and there's a number of reasons Pirlo was allowed to go for free which might need to be spelt out for you like most things.

not to pick on you, but this is a really simplistic way of looking at this.

Wenger and the board probably have put a value on what one year of RVP is worth to them. If a team offers 20mil, with 5 up front and the rest in payments over 5 years, is that a good deal for them? Just an example, you don't need to answer my question.

Point being, I don't think its just as simple as you are making it out to be. Again, its a player in his prime, and Wenger's opinion of strikers aging is well documented. He knows how much a year of 29yo RVP is worth. So does Ferg and everyone else, they definitely don't want to overpay for a 29yo striker, especially one that wants as much in wages as he does.

So yeah, again, I won't be surprised to see us keep him for one more year. It also helps relieve some pressure on Podolski and Giroud.

LOL calm down dude. You asked a simple question and you got a simple answer. Then you made an extra condition why the answer wasn't correct.

I'm beginning to find you guys more and more amusing. Now I don't even need to try anymore to get you worked up and you flip tables after every post I make .

As good as Pirlo still is, he's hardly in his prime.

Ok, I'll rephrase the question just so you can understand it. When has any major club allowed a player in his prime to go for free in a situation even remotely close to RVP's?

Exactly, in his final season for Milan he didn't even played 50% of the league games and was 32. He get's a ton of love around here and rightly so but if teams had known a move would rejuvenate him the way Juve did top club's would have been beating the door down for him but none even bothered looking for a short term deal.
