West Ham make record bid for Andy Carroll.

Quote:
Jack Sullivan, son of David Sullivan, the West Ham co-owner, added to the speculation by tweeting: "Dad is working on the biggest signing in the history of the club - twice as big as anything the club have done before!"

I'd guess they are trying to work the deal so there is plenty of add ons rather than cash up front. All Im really interested in is to see David Gold interviewed on SSN with his chopper in the background!

He'd prob do well in Big Sam's system.

Reason 73 why it's a miracle Rafa Benitez is still unemployed

Please let this happen, rumours are that any money brought in for Carroll will go towards a new striker.

West Ham - the Ocean Finance of English football.

Amazing that we are supposedly looking at spending a record fee on a forward, yet with only two senior central defenders at the club we had a 32 year old journeyman Dutch defender and a bloke from Southend on trial yesterday.

Based on that, I'm going to guess we aren't in for Carroll at all and are short of season ticket sales.

After they lied about discounts on season tickets, I guess they won't be able to fool the supporters with this one.

I got my 20% in the end but that didn't stop Karren writing another terrible open letter about the Olympic stadium this week.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were interested, but only on terms that Liverpool are highly unlikely to accept.

I reckon he'll end up back at Newcastle, it's without doubt where he'll want to head if he has to leave Liverpool.

As I mentioned before, Newcastle pay 100% cash up front on all transfers and i'm sure that appeals to Liverpool as they could put that money to use immediately. I think that reason will see both clubs eventually reach a compromise on the fee.

Why would Newcastle want him? it would be a steps backwards and make zero sense with the way the team function now. Their policy with transfers in and out of the club over the last 2 season indicate its very very unlikely.

They are losing both Ba and Cisse for the ACN so that might be part of it.

So sign a forward who wont fit into your system for the 6 weeks you might need him, for loan maybe but buying him for that reason makes little sense.

AS says Nuri Sahin is joining a big premier league club on one year loan, rumoured to be Arsenal.

Would seem a little odd for Real to loan a very good player to our rival to make room for signing Modric before the deal is even complete.

It's no secret that Pardew rates Carroll very highly from working with him.

If true that may be part of a Modric deal? Here's your money and here's Sahin for the transition.

It's not like Newcastle are Barcelona either when it comes to style of play.

That's not even the most odd part.

I thought Sahin didn't want to leave Madrid and they weren't interested in him going anywhere and that was why Sahin + cash wouldn't happen.

Unless it's strictly a loan and they def won't sell him and he will only go to a team in the CL.

A lot of rumors that Sahin is going to Arsenal. Does that mean that Wishere isn't quite ready yet? Good pickup if it's true.

Having a playing like Carroll in your team does effect your whole teams approach i.m.o, you simply can't play fast attacking, attractive football. Something Newcastle were achieving last season.
Liverpool have proven if you are not going to play to his strengths and build attack that suit him then he is useless and actually a liability to the team.

Spot on. He would be a great player for teams who play a slow pace very defensive style of football and seek they opportunities for scoring mostly from set pices. For anything else he is just to clumsy to be +EV for a team.
