Hmm John says it's the light on that angle shot that makes it look like it touches but on other angles you don't get the light and thus doesn't look like it hits.

If he says it doesn't he's right there looking at it he's got to see it.

It's 20 ****ing 17 and I'm sitting here just hoping that old ass John Higgins doesn't get crowned world champion. The state of snooker is dire

Meh the Chinese up and coming players should make it more interesting and bring more revenue/money into the sport.

Lol the commentators didn't even know that rule. Neither did I!

Selby deserved it, no question.

I reckon him and Ding are the favourites at this stage for next year - perhaps Trump can mount a challenge, plus a load of other guys, but I'd put those two a little bit ahead.

Bump for last day of qualifiers and of course the upcoming WC. Baids did your buddy make it?

Unfourtunately it looks like Joe Perry will qualify (up 7-2 on Mark Davis), but otoh Peter Ebdon is down 6-3 to Ryan Day. In a match that could've been the final 15 years ago, it's Matthew Stevens 7-2 Ken Doherty.

Also, somehow Liang Wenbo is down 0-9 to some chap called Jamie Jones. Huh.

nah got got by ebdon

wenbo had a 147 in an earlier qualifier, then two frames later had a 140 and missed a routine black off the spot for the repeat. woulda been the first ever to hit 2 in a match

Jamie Jones was a **** hot junior, I know several people that were on him to bink the worlds at silly odds back in 2002

World snooker profile says born in 1988 and turned pro in 2006. Must've been some odds.

yeah its a bit of a thing in britain, if your grandkid shows a bit of promise at a sport you stick a fiver on him at 5000/1 to get an england cap or whatever

i specifically remember it being a thing when mark williams lost in the world championship final of 1999: when he was 7 one of his relatives had made a decent sized bet on him winning the thing before the new millennium, the payout was comparable to the winner's share of the prize money

he won it in 2000. one year too late

At least they got a nice story to tell out of it

Betting on your kid to get an England cap seems like whatever the opposite of hedging is. Once my (grand)son makes it there, I'll get a payout of 20% what he makes in a week!

Hope Matthew Stevens makes a run. Higgins think will be in great form after having a good year and such a beast competitor. Also would be fun if Day could make a run and see how his bottle can take it. Used to be nut-low when it mattered but this year been a turn-around.

So are you guys on Selby to win this year? I caught a fair bit of the last event, and he looked pretty damn good. Ronnie is obviously playing well, but the long match format won't help him against Selby.

Selby has not been good this season but yea last event doesnt make other guys feel easy.

Ronnie vs Maguire first round, that could be interesting.

Geeze, what a tough draw for both that is.

Other than a close match against Kyren Wilson (who played great) Selby cruised every match - he looked very very hard to beat in a long match.

Shows what I know ... the clear favourite in my eyes is 7-2 down.

Ronnie fans getting excited.
