cant remember specifics but the gist of it was the bookies would get 10x the usual volume on exact frame betting on a range of outcomes, eg 10-3, 10-4 and 10-5. he'd go lose the match 10-4 and then one day later the bloke who put the bets on would xfer exactly half of the money that had been won on those wagers into lee's wife's bank account. amateur hour

dont have an informed comment on higgins, dont really know anything about it other than having seen the vid. my guess is that he got off super light but idk
lol nothing surprises me with Lee though, daft as a brush.

Stephen Lee's disciplinary decision covered here (costly for him)

Others on that link - Lee's not the only daft one!

Ronnie is awesome.

I love how he just doesn't care on doing the 1-4-7

I concur with Davis if that was for more than Ł5k Ronnie nails it.

Just a betting investigation - from memory it was betting firms saying that they kept taking lots of money on him to lose precisely 5-0, which he did, in a match where he was expected to win. No other score, and lowering the odds didn't stop it.

To be fair, it's probably not as clear cut as some other cases and I may be being tainted by the fact that he's always seemed a bit dodgy (as Maguire does also) and the fact that my betting shop manager friend told me it is pretty common in general.

The worst apparently were the Francisco brothers.

If it ends up being Ding/Higgins in the final do I just root for injuries?

What's so bad about Ding?

Dunno if I´ll end up enjoying days of defensive play, but so far loving the selby-ding match-up, Ding really has played great safety this time around. Not giving an inch to selby and that is a feat.

How is his English these days? Think I saw one interview where it was a bit better, but a couple of years ago it was still very shaky, or maybe just froze infront of cameras. But yeah his analysis of the tourney he finaled in was "t(h)ink good", tough to get your personality across.

decent

i note that hazel calls him junhui rather than ding

Thanks, haha gotta root for ding after that, good stuff. Still would bet on Selby to take it down though.

Kid been shipped to Europe with a huge amount of pressure on his back and couldn't speak the lingo.

None the rest of them are very charismatic btw.

I never thought Ding's snooker was aggressively boring ŕ la Ebdon

He does look uninterested at pretty much all times, but yeah it's not like everyone else are brilliant showmen

Agree.

Selby is way more boring. Rooting for Ding!

Ronnie seems like the only one with an out going personality. Others like Dale just aren't at the same skill level.

IIRC it was because they said they couldn't put a exact specific game on which Higgins was going to fix, ridiculous.

I also think it was because he was #1 at the time and it would have basically destroyed the sport if he got a life time ban.

FWIW though (re Lee), betting circumstantial evidence can be very strong - in that a "natural" explanation can be practically zero percent likely. Ebdon is another who has smoke around him.

I used to know a betting shop manager and he told me about a few things that go on in snooker. They know who the bend players are.
lol their was no doubt about Lee. He is pure filth as a human being. He got let off lightly.

Please post the list of matches Higgins has thrown "clear evidence of him agreeing to fix matches" in a sting operation does not = throwing matches. I don't believe he was stupid enough to go through with any of the stuff that happened in the video because of his reputation in the game, he clearly wanted out of that situation asap imo and their really is very little suspicious activity from him ever in betting markets, whereas Lee was dumb as f*ck with the way he went about things.

And he didn't have another meeting with the set up guys or it would have been taped too! He was guilty of not reporting it is about the sum of it in my view.

I've always liked Ding Junhui. He's struggled under pressure in the past but he's been a huge influence in growing the game in China. It's also great that his English has improved so much so he can actually express himself and hopefully shake some of the opinions that he's dull.

As an aside Chinese names are <Family name> <Given name> when formal and just <Given name> when colloquial. So Ding is his family name and Junhui is his given name - calling him "Junhui" in conversation is equivalent to calling O'Sullivan "Ronnie".

He doesn't have to have actually thrown a match to be punished - just like you don't actually have to kill someone to go to jail if you plan it. As for other betting patterns, I don't know - these are only public in rare cases but the bookies see suspect patterns all the time.

This may not be clear cut but I read through the basic public facts at the time and thought h was very likely to be guilty. Not 99.9% like Lee, but still a high number. I can tell you something for 100% certain though, if I was in the position he claimed to have been in then I'd let the snooker authorities know as soon as I could. It's a no brainier, for his benefit as much as anything else but he didn't do this even though he knew that he was supposed to. Very odd.

Given he didn't report it then he was very lucky to get the benefit of the doubt as he was basically caught red handed agreeing to fix a game.

Also, as I said before - GO DING!

Based on today whoever wins that semi has to be a clear favourite.

Yea never thought Ding played passively, and as said others are not showmen either. I haven´t liked Allen, but he did give an entertaining interview after his loss. At least he is able to speak his mind, even if comes across douchy. Martin Gould is fun to watch, sometimes just attacks everything, not even close percentage balls.

Have a couple of friends who are Ebdon fans. And they play equally slow =(
