"ben roethlisberger is the best quarterback in the game because he won the last superbowl..."

how you feel about this statement should answer your question

Stephen A. Smith used to be an OUTSTANDING NBA commentator on (I think) CNNSI for while before ending up on ESPN. He completely morphed into another human being.

Sadly, people like that stuff. They love conflict, they love grandstanding, they love pointed, extreme opinions and judging others. They don't like reasoned "well, either team could win if....." type of stuff. Without getting into any political debate, is there any better evidence of people liking that stuff than Rush Limbaugh?

i like van pelt because he's one of the only people on ESPN who doesn't seem like a major douchebag, and calling out Selig was pretty awesome

But, yeah, +1 to those who realize that Skip is acting a role in a play. ESPN talking head conflicts are all staged and scripted, all the time, and it's been validated by several leaks over the years regarding personalities.

I really think Skip Bayless believes most of the **** he says. I mean, the guy said Mark Buehrle's perfect game was "unimpressive", that's a level of playa hating that few of us can even IMAGINE let alone achieve!

skip is ******ed but I still hold that Jay Crawford and Dana Jacobson are the most ******ed/annoying entities on espn with Jim Rome and Bill Plaschke nipping close on their heels.

This is a great post. I'm glad someone else remembers Stephen A. in his brief ESPN appearances before he was hired and at CNN/SI because he was fantastic.

Honestly, the success of ESPN seems to have changed ESPN a significant amount. Prior to the start of PTI, there wasn't nearly as much debating but now it's like that's all that they know how to do. Even the NFL draft now has to be debated by Kiper and McShay for 8 months a year.

It's pretty easy: smart people read the internet, dumb people watch tv.

Sportsnation is like the most watered-down show on TV.

What's the best nickname? "Dolphin" "Weasel" "Dragon" "Puma"... Sportsnation says.... "WHO THE **** CARES?"

If Michelle Beadle wasn't on the show I would not watch it. It's basically really lightweight fodder for when ythere's nothing else on.

Cowherd is really weird, in that he says a lot of pretty smart stuff, but then a lot of awful stuff, too. He makes assumptions, then runs with them, and doesn't really know how he's going to finish his point until he does. Sometimes he winds up with something actually wise, and other times it's a trainwreck.

That said, Skip Bayless is 100x worse than the hypothetical love-child of Cowher and Nancy Grace.

i've never seen sportsnation because i stopped watching espn except for highlights about 3 years ago, but too much of anything pretty much always sucks. you just can't saturate it.

i loved tony kornheiser back in the day. when he first came out i thought he was hilarious (his book is absolutely unbelievably hilarious (talking about I'm back for More Cash here, just a collection of articles]). the idea about PTI was gold-- it was perfect timing, good contrast of personalities, etc. you just can't force feed something and bring on too much of it. everything is about balance.

they took a relatively good and entertaining thing, put it on steroids, and now everything is a joke that i go out of my way to not watch.
