Does the ice change in speed and curl throughout the game or in different games or is it always constant?

Well, this popped up on my Twitter feed. Team SHUSTAHHH doing the ceremonial puck drop in Minnesota before the today's Kings/Wilds game. Kopitar and Parise added a nice touch doing it with curling brooms.

Not sure if I understand the question. Are you asking if it was at a hockey rink? The lesson was at the Dr Pepper center in Farmers Branch. It was a hockey rink that had the curling lines and bullseyes on it. I think they may have multiple rinks but not sure if they have one that’s only dedicated to curling. But I doubt it.

Yeah sorry, I didnt explain it very well.

What you described is called arena ice (curling played in an arena, normally on a hockey rink.) Dedicated ice is a club normally separated into a clubhouse on one side and a sheet of ice separated into 3-5 curling lanes on the other. Looks something like this.

These are common in Canada and the northern hockey loving states. I don't know how many of them fall south of the Mason Dixon line.

3-5 sheets?

90%++ of clubs in Ontario have 6-8 sheets.

They all should have rolled the balls underhand with the proper weight. I guess sliding would be difficult.

Not shocking STEINER is the only one to manage to throw it anywhere close to the target

HAMILTON clearly too drunk to even attempt it and went with the "**** it, rolling it underhand is kind of like curling" move

Oh man, how did I miss this thread while the Olympics were going on?

The curling club in my home town decided to hold their open house immediately before the Olympics, so before the SHUSTAAHHHHHHHH hype, and the place was still placed--easily 120 people at a two-sheeter. It was a great time--everyone was super-nice, and everyone got to push out of the hack with a stone a few times (but only a few times, given the crowd that was there). They were doing sign-ups for one-weekend lessons and a four-week beginners league; I went for the one-weekend lesson, since I was going to be our of town for part of the longer league.

Like many of you I stayed up all night to watch the men's final, saw the big five in the 8th and was waaay too buzzed to go to bed until about noon. I spent a good amount of time watching videos on Curling Canada's YouTube and reading their website. I know the question came up, but apparently Rachel Homan a) already has a sports psychologist and b) took him as her team's coach to Korea. I am going to take it for granted that he is looking for a new gig today.

Anyway, back to the weekend lesson: there were a dozen of us, broken into four groups. Each of us had one of the regular members teach us how to slide out of the hack with the stone, how to release, how to sweep...all the basics. Stu the coach was very good, both informative and friendly. I had two women in my group. One of them fell over on about 75% of her releases because she couldn't shift her balance fast enough. The other one was absolutely amazing! Lilly looked almost as smooth as the regular members in like twenty minutes.

As others have mentioned, it is way, way harder than it looks. There is a 0.000001% chance that a 2+2 team could train their way into the Olympics in four years. And only if the best guy here pairs up with Lilly for mixed doubles.

After that we had a short two-end game, and coffee and a chat afterwards (too early for beer). It was an absolutely wonderful time; I would totally recommend any open house or beginner's lesson. I demurred in terms of a membership; the only way to make it worthwhile in terms of the fees would to play there multiple times a week, and I don't have time in my life for that. Still, I have nothing but awesome things to say about trying it.
