a lot of stuff that happens later on needs Skyler to have an active role, if they cut most of her scenes you would get to that point and be like "who gives a ****?". Not that BB doesn't do that pretty often anyway.

I actually agree with that take as well, but I'm a BB hater so ymmv.

Putting those 4 together is kinda weird imo. A lot of viewers would say that Walt Jr and Skyler are annoying and typically drag down any random episode you might pick out of a hat. But those same viewers would also probably say that BB as a whole is a show that is carried by Cranston as Walt and Paul as Jesse. Without these two performances or characters, I doubt it would have reached its largely consensus status as a great show that must be watched. In fact, I'd venture to guess it might not even have made it past 2 or 3 seasons.

That's not to say the supporting characters aren't great at what they're there to do; provide the show's world with both tension and humor. But they're creating that world for our two leads.

The take that BB is a show where the supporting cast is carrying characters like Walt and Jesse is unusual. In my experience, people who aren't into Walt and/or Jesse as the two leads just aren't into BB whatsoever.

And I suspect you might like Walt and Jesse more in upcoming seasons (3-4), but I won't spoil the specific reasons why.

EDIT: maybe not actually - "horrendous" to describe them through the first couple of seasons is a pretty immovable stance

there's something to be said about BC overacting and mugging like crazy being detrimental to Walt's character. I don't really fall in that camp, but I've seen the argument made and I could see how it'd jive with some people.

Skyler hate is dumb.

She's the blueberry pancakes scene of BB. She serves a necessary purpose.

I heard a Tarantino interview on O&A where he defends the blueberry pancakes. You can't just go from reviving Uma Thurman into interracial manrape. That's not how effective storytelling works. You gotta push and pull the audience.

My only Skyler gripe is that they never explained why Walt was ever into her (think the beer on couch scene from American Beauty).

Hating on Skyler just shows very shallow undeveloped and unnuanced taste.
