Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep"
Melissa McCarthy, "Mike & Molly"
Amy Poehler, "Parks and Recreation"

love mulgrew from star trek, but her accent is terrible in orange is the new black.

Close ones: BBT vs Modern Family, Freeman vs Cumberbatch (vs. Elba)
Dinklage vs. Paul is an easy Dinklage vote for me.
Dinklage easy for me too.

Re: TD. Isn't emmy stuff based on single episodes? If so I can see TD > BB, but full BB season > TD season if only cuz the TD finale.

A lot of stuff is based on single episodes; I think for the "best series" awards they consider three episodes, but I'm not totally sure.

I'm glad Woody got nominated too. Easy for people to forget about his performance in favor of McConaughey's showier one.

Emmy nomination rules are strange. Shows often decide where to submit themselves; I don't think there are clear, hard lines. Most half-hour shows submit in comedy, a few submit in drama, and some (like Shameless this year) switch sides at some point in their run.

Started Orange is the New Black on Netflix after hearing about it so much. My first impression is that it's overrated and unimpressive. I don't feel like truly ranting about it, it's not terrible, but it's like I just don't care if I watch the next episode or not.

Boss is on Netflix. It's not bad and TV is pretty barren right now.

Kelsey Grammer is excellent. Most of the acting is excellent and Kathleen Robertson (Claire Arnold) puts up an absolute Mount Rushmore TV nudity performance.

The daughter and her black boyfriend both give ridiculously bad performances. It's so bad I skipped their scenes after awhile.

Halfway through S2 I kind of agree. It's ok but I don't particularly care what happens if that makes any sense.

Re: BBT/Modern Family. It's my personal vote. BBT usually makes me laugh or snicker. I'm also a bit burned out on MF these days. Objectively MF is quite a bit better as a show but I'm a scientist and the topic matter is just more fun for me (I also enjoy most geeky things from the show particularly math/physics/cs/comic books/scifi)

Louie is just too strange and hipstery for me. I enjoy it but sometimes I'm also like "WTF give me my time back lol soldiers long episode". At times it feels like a badly executed LCK-ified Seinfeld clone wannabe.
Some episodes are elite though. Masturbation one comes to mind.

OITNB: I'm a little more than halfway done with S2. The end of S1 had an OK cliffhanger in that I wanted to see what resulted from the final scene, but the payoff stunk. Maybe I'll go off on similar problems it has with Weeds later. I do think the woman playing Red is great, great character. Some of the others though, ugh.

It delivered, yeah. I'd say it picks up around episode 6, and episodes 6-9 are on a higher level than the rest of the series.

I just read a review that gave Ray Donovan S2 a D+

Then opened Facebook and the top of my news feed was "Gonna start watching Ray Donovan, hearing some good things about it"

I enjoy drunk watching Ray Donovan with my brother and tearing apart the dialogue and storytelling.

It's such hackery that sometimes I mistake it for satire.

Fargo was really good. I thought it was exceptionally well cast and all the actors delivered. ODENKIRK killed it in his small role IMO.

Speaking of Odenkirk, what's up with the Better Call Saul Breaking Bad spin-off? I've been hearing about it for like a year plus.

Funny you ask, because July is press tour month, and the AMC execs leaked some info about the show earlier this week:
  • It will premiere in early 2015
  • It is set six years before the events of Breaking Bad
  • In addition to Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks, it also stars Michael McKean as Saul's brother Chuck, among others
  • "My real name's McGill. The Jewish thing I do for the homeboys." The story will be, like Breaking Bad, one of transformation, in that we'll see how the criminal lawyer born Jimmy McGill became the criminal. lawyer we know and love.
