ya i don't think it's 1 or 2

probably more going on there, like:

- Jon might not want to work with Littlefinger, she seemed sketched out about them together, but i don't even know why ... did Jon have any real thoughts on LF? he knows nothing
- the Knights of the Vale prob more keen on the plan as executed, rather than joining the battle from the start (yeah they'd have to do as ordered, but as this season has finally told us, ppl think what they think about events)
- like you say Sansa might not known if they were coming or not, or if they were coming to help or hurt (a LF back-stab would have been brilliant tbh)
- some other stuff i already forgot

but it was probably 95% dumb drama to deceive the audience, which is a lot of seasons 6-8 unfortunately

The second worst part of the show now is Sansa being treated like she's some power player. The fake out last season with "how do you plead ... lord baelish" was just all sorts of nonsense. Now Arya is all "shes the smartest person I know". Why? Because she had an entire army of the Vale to use and waited until the last moment after countless of her men - and almost her brother - died thinking they had no help? Because she faked out Petyr instead of just telling him what his crimes were and executing him in a place that hated him anyways?

The third worst part is Tyrion going from one of the smartest people on the show to one of the most gullible. Yeah, I'm sure Cersei is sending her army to go help the Starks and Targs. A million miles away. When she wants them to all die anyways.

Underrated bit of stupidity that I'm not sure anyone went off on yet:

1. Ser Jorah contracts grayscale and is COMMANDED to find a cure and return to Dany's side.

2. Ser Jorah FINDS A CURE by getting locked in a room only for SAMGOAT to find him and cure him.

3. Ser Jorah returns to Dany's side and it's SUPER EMOTIONAL that they're back together aga-

4. -nevermind, Ser Jorah within minutes agrees to a jaunt north of the wall to capture one wight and most likely die, i.e., not be by Dany's side, and Dany is cool with it.

Setting aside that the wight capture plan was QUESTIONABLE, his participation is still insanely lol.

I got unintentional lolz out of the convo from 8.1 as well

Dany: Sam, you were the only one who could cure Ser Jorah. What would you like as a reward

Sam: Something about seeing my dad

Dany: oh I killed him sorry

Sam: Ok well then my brother

Dany: Yeah killed him too

Sam: Im gonna go

Dany: k bye

Maybe I'm forgetting something, but didn't Sam justifiably hate his dad?

Yeah, iirc his dad was a dick about him liking books and wanting to be a maester instead of hunting and being a knight. I think he liked he brother though?

Dad was the one who sent him to the wall, to disinherit him since he was the eldest and weak

TV thing to have him be upset about that part, aka it makes no sense

It's easy to watch and enjoy GOT now, and it's not like I care much about how genuinely dumb the plot became, but still, Battle of the Bastards is a glaring low point even among the dumber plot points of Seasons ~ 4 and on.
well said

like so many shows, it fell off a cliff the last 1.5 seasons. this plot line is forever inexcusable to me, but at least the [stuff that happens before it] is still canon, in my book.

yes. he was sent to the wall because his father threatened to kill him if he didnt, because his father didnt like him or something like that. too fat.

i like watching the interviews with the creators at the end of each show (its like 5 mins) because they often do a good job of explaining stuff (especially because the last 1.5 seasons theyve had a LOT of things to explain...) and they basically said when someone has a parent who they had a horrible relationship with dies, it actually hits harder, because there will never be an opportunity to make things right. so they said although it doesn't make sense (his dad was abusive, borderline murderous - threatened to kill him anyway!) from a practical perspective, him being super sad actually does make sense. or something like that. idk

Just because of the above, its still not going to make him totally 100% cool with burning his dad alive+Brother who he liked.

If you actually listen to the dialogue, sam actually quips about his dad being dad, something like " at least my Brother will be now be Lord."

The dead dad unsettled him, it was the dead brother than broke him down.

Some of Sam's feeling have to be due to the realization of what Dany truly is and what she is capable of - she's not all that "good" and is much more like her father than Jon believes - which is why he's pushing for Jon to claim the throne. Good of the realm, this ***** cray, it will only get worse when she's sitting on the throne, etc.

Some on Reddit pointed out how much the display resembles the sigil for House Targaryen and think it might mean something so of course it will have no connection at all.

There was also some speculation that we might at long last be told what that first symbol they left with body parts was from S1E1, but it looks like "It's a message from the Night King" (Berric) may be all we get.

No idea why they're holding it back, in past seasons it was out within a couple of days I think.

What stood out for me was that she couldn't be bothered to give anything in the way of condolences. She might have well said "Yeah... so that happened." Maybe apologize, say something like "I know I can't make that up to you, but you've earned your reward and a place of high honor in my kingdom" or w/e.

****, even "Well, on the bright side, it's nice meeting you, Lord Tarly" would have been better than that.
