Kinda feel like I’m over BM a bit, seems way too predictable now and is no longer asking interesting questions beyond technologyyyy mannnn

Thought Arkangel was legit terrible:

the season as a whole was disappointing. hang the dj was very good but the only one I would rank as above average. arkangel and crocodile were simply reboots of entire history of you and 100% predictable. metalhead was pointless. black museum was alright but also predictable.

Not at all. Had the same thing going into the Independence Day reboot (which was horrible compared to the JP reboot but whatever). Think a lot of it is just nostalgia and dependent on what movies were huge at the time you were a kid. Same reason I watched live action Beauty and the Beast and am hyped as **** for The Lion King, Aladdin, and Little Mermaid. Had no interest in the Ghostbusters or Indian Jones reboots, most likely because they were just before my time.

arkangel, crocodile, and metalhead are all bad. bottom four in the series along with waldo.

I'm kind of a sucker for the black-and-white apocalyptic thing, and it made me think enjoyably about all the stuff that must have pre-dated the episode. I can understand hating it, to be fair.

Arkangel was def terrible but Crocodile is the only BM episode I think is objectively poorly done, poorly considered and poorly written entertainment. That episode should've been cut.

Loved the Callister ep. I think about things like uploading consciousness way more than most people so I don't really expect to enjoy tv shows about it as they have to spend so much time spoonfeeding the basic ideas but this was handled pretty much perfectly imo.

Nick Bostrom says that he doesn't like science fiction because they have to overemphasize the downsides in order to create an interesting story and while they obviously did this here they showed the massive upsides as well and made a fun show at the same time.

Atm I think that a universe of ~infinite uploads of slightly improved human brains living as close to perfect lives as possible in cyberspace would be optimal from a human perspective

watched the first 20 mins of arkangel and checked itt to see if i should keep going with it. will try hang the dj next.

I don't get why you guys thought crocodile was so bad. I thought they were all good besides metalhead, but I only watched it once and half assed so willing to try again.

for one, arkangel and crocodile were just reboots of "entire history of you". things can get bad when your entire memory is accessible

with crocodile the technology or its implication didnt even matter. a woman murdered people to cover up previous murders. this is the type of thing that police can already investigate and figure out without reading the mind of a guinea pig. along with arkangel there was no twist, the episodes played out exactly how you would expect them to

also how did they even access the memory when to get memories from people you need to talk them into thinking about the right moment.

Arkangel was the most plausible tech, and the premise had promise, but it was just so poorly executed. And the blurry images thing ripped off White Christmas blockages (which were way cooler).

One logical issue w/Ark was the main character’s development and risk perception should have been way more affected than they were. She was a typical (actually well-adjusted) teen that should have been super autistic given her complete lack of exposure to emotionally jarring events.

Arkangel would have been good Without the dumb blurring stuff. Just if the mom could see what the kid is seeing could have been interesting.

Really enjoying mindhunter

Manhunt: Unabomber was pretty good.

Just started Black Sails. Pilot was solid.

Loved mindhunter but maybe falls off a tad.

Thought this was the weakest set of Black Mirror episodes (lumping the seven pre-Netflix ones into a set).

"Hang the DJ" was a good episode, on par with the decent (but not best) episodes from previous seasons. "USS Callister" was okay but too minimalistic for my liking -- found myself wanting to know more about all the characters, in order to actually care about them. I can see people liking "Black Museum" (I like a lot about it too) but the concept of endlessly suffering simulated consciousnesses is one I find really unpleasant. Rest, pretty meh.

I thought season 3 was fantastic. This one felt a lot less vibrant as a whole, not only in terms of storylines but also the cinematography and special effects. Wouldn't be surprised if the budget for that was reduced a bit. Felt that way to me.

re: the budget, i never thought of that beforehand, but i think you're right. I've only watched the first 2 and I thought "USS Callister" was pretty brilliant. Really fleshed out "mindcrime" scenario (from a nick bostrom neologism)
