See, if we'd deported Matt Stairs 15 years ago, that never would've happened!

GTFO Canada!

leinenkugel's is like the ****tiest brewery ever. good american breweries that i'm sure sell beer in canada: sam adams, sierra nevada, rogue, bell's. ill give you though that labatt and molson > bud/coors (though by now they're probably all owned by the same companies anyway)

Being Canadian I must say that American microbreweries are better than Canadian microbreweries by a large margin if you do not include Quebec. However including Quebec they are pretty close. USA does have better beer without a doubt than the rest of Canada. Major breweries don't even make real beer so that doesn't count.

American beer >>> Canadian beer

mass produced Canadian garbage beer > mass produced American garbage beer though

I don't know what's up wit the 4.5% ABV thing, if that used to be a law and no longer is or something, but plenty of breweries certainly and routinely go way above that

Where does this beer myth come from?

American beer used to use alcohol by weight to denote the alcohol content in beer. Some areas still use alcohol by weight, but there has been an effort to convert to alcohol by volume in the past decade. Alcohol by volume is a better metric.

Alcohol by volume is the percentage of the liquid which is alcohol. For example if you had 100 ml which contained 4 ml of alcohol, the alcohol by volume is 4%. Alcohol by weight measures the mass of a substance in a mixture as a percentage of the mass of the entire mixture. So if you had 100 grams which contained 4 grams of alcohol, the alcohol by weight is 4%. It looks like the two are the same, but they are not.

You get into trouble comparing ABV and ABW because is alcohol weighs less than water. Alcohol is less dense, about 4/5 as dense as water. The density of alcohol is 0.79336. Alcohol by volume is the alcohol by weight times the density.

ABV = ABW * 0.79336

This means if your beer is 4% ABV, the beer is only 3.17% ABW. Since Canadian beers use ABV and American beers were using ABW, many thought Canadian beers were stronger. The myth persists to this day, even though American beers are starting to use the same metric.
lolmythaments

hmm however I found some guy who said:

Quote:
I live in Alabama and beer cannot be sold that is over 6%.
and I know in Utah the limit is lower

seems like we need a thread to also make fun of the South and/or Mormons

This thread smells like bitterness over knowing you only have a country because we threw it back after the war.

Flappy heads and beady eyes ftw.

we ditched those. NE is a weird place, but it's a little less weird now. We can at least get sloppy on sundays while struggling with our puritan/"progressive" duality.

Also, a canadian may have invented b-ball, but he had to come to MA to do it.

And just lol at the beer debate. America crushes. game over.
