Why cant the education systems? We have single payer education in the US and it is both the most expensive in the world and also mediocre at best, bordering on actually quite bad.

Why not? We have essentially the same educational system, based on the Prussian model, as most of the civilized world, it's paid for through a single payer just like everyone elses, we spend more money on it than any other country and yet we have worse results. How does that not at least begin to answer his question? Obviously it's a complex question that no one can entirely answer but it's not like my response was way off base.
