All,

Is there a way to make guns safer? Like a switch to flip when you would prefer to fire a rubber bullet?

Wasn't there some proposal recently to place some sort of of device in all firearms to track and remotely disarm them, devices that if tampered with would somehow prevent the device from firing.

Early estimates, iirc, were in the $200 range.
I don't know much about this proposal other than I've heard about the idea on news programs and once in the debates. Anyone else know more?

From Oval Office, Constitutional law professor advocates removing Constitutionally-protected rights without due process. Why should people on the no-fly list, which has no statutory requirements, be allowed to vote?

Otherwise it was better than I expected. The poll numbers must have been pretty brutal.

Personally I think the coworker business is a load of ****. I think those two in CA had another target planned and jumped the gun for some reason and that was the most convenient target - sort of like Brooks in Shawshank. "Maybe I could shoot the manager, you know, as a bonus."

Weak speech. Whole bunch of reaffirming what we already know about the air strikes, why a ground war is bad, passively naming that's how this mess started by saying that's exactly what ISIL wants. I think I expected an Eisenhower type of military-industrial-complex calling out of the gun lobby but pretty much just bully-pulpitted Congress on the authorization of force, the assault weapons ban, and no fly listers buying guns. Whatever.

Well, Hussain Abdullah, Muhammad Wilkerson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, and, of course, Muhammad Ali, among many others, is not a bad list.

How do you reason with people like this or even people that watch this and think "Yeah, she's right!"? Is it even possible to change someone's mind that is this fervent?

My question on the CA shooting is this. If the neighbor was afraid to call the police because of profiling, and now everyone is saying they should have called. What exactly were the police going to do when they arrived and saw they had legal guns? Doesn't seem like something that could have been prevented IMO.

Maybe. Maybe not though.

Seems like there's at least a nonzero chance it would have been a different incident entirely if his neighbor would have not been able to buy two assault rifles legally.

Is San Bernardino really "The deadliest terror attack on US Soil since 9/11"?

I guess somehow because Adam Lanza was white we don't consider Sandy Hook to be terrorism?

I like how she said it has happened. That was true before it happened, even if you don't consider Sandy Hook terrorism!

There's more of an argument that this wasn't terrorism than their is that Lanza was.

But that would also be a dumb argument since this was pretty obviously terrorism and Lanza was obvious not.

I would consider the planned parenthood shooter a terrorist and he was white fwiw. It's about motive not skin color.
