SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics) - Page 707 - Sporting Events and Fantasy Sports

So I have a friend that I think is going off the deep end.

He started out as a Bernie fan, then moved the Gary Johnson but fled that camp after "what is Alepoo" and the toungue sticking out thing, and now verbally says he might be ok with Jill Stein. The problem is that he has also stated that there is a "non-zero chance he will vote for TRUMP, but a 0% chance he will vote for Hillary." Last night he was visibly happy and applauding trump's comments and kept repeating that "he's exactly right on this" while emphasizing that Hillary cannot be the next President.

He also thought the "grab her by the pussy" video was no big deal and shouldn't matter.

He seems super mad about THE EMAILS and has recently been quite upset about how there is "proof that Hillary committed a felony by conspiring with a super-PAC" and was thrilled when Trump dropped the line about "you'd be in jail."

He's socially liberal and highly supportive verbally and publicly of gay marriage, women's rights, single payer healthcare, and increased taxes on the rich. He also is the son of an immigrant, non-religious, and college educated and consistently employed (though not happy with his job or salary even though he is making ~100k) so you'd think he checks the boxes for a reliable Hillary vote.

FWIW, he is a fan of Bill Clinton and Obama and has repeatedly said a 3rd term of Obama would be fantastic.

What do I do with this guy to get him to vote Hillary?

Brain transplant?

I mean, try to focus them on things like facts and actual policies and stuff. If he's unwilling to do that (because he sounds like he's being ruled by his emotions) then you're hosed as far as getting him to vote Hillary, but maybe focus on getting him to vote a third party on the basis that if you don't want to vote for someone because they're an abhorrent, selfish, evil bitch that voting for Trump is kind of a bad idea.

I know it wasn't for shooting someone in the face, but there was never a more perfect metaphor for the Bush presidency than Dick Cheney shooting his hunting partner in the face! The reason he is down about 10 now is because of a lack of substance. You're underrating how many people never gaf until now and how important women/minority voters are. He did not address those segments well at all.

Dude was down nearly double digits before tonight. He didn't answer a single question. Came off poorly. Every actual poll of actual voters had him losing the debate. The post debate conversation is not kind for him. On what world did this go well for him?

Also I was overly pessimistic I suppose, it is true that I failed to properly account for the wholesale loss of the support of women and minorities, which is probably now concrete.

CDL, after thinking about it I think you should just play on the fears of your "friend." Tell him that since Hillary is winning whether he votes or not that he should vote Hillary to be safe and avoid retaliation (since the evil Dems probably have voter data).

Think of it as a political version of Pascal's Wager.

tbf Hoya you were talking specifically about the debate and you could be proven right that it helped him, but a lot of us were just saying "yeah maybe but the damage done from the tape will override anything"
