Put differently, that's Corey Lewandowski's entire job. Present a position, no matter how absurd, that cuts favorably for Trump. There is absolutely no obligation that it be even remotely true. It just needs to make the cut for being presented in media coverage as a view in opposition to the competing position.

It is very nearly the Chewbacca defense in real life.

Hoya,

Maybe I'm missing your point but the media-at-large could not possibly be much more hostile to Trump.

That is true as of approximately 15 days ago and only became true after one of the more shamefully naive and pathetic years in the history of journalism. That's what empowered him throughout the entire primary.

More importantly, no matter how "hostile" the media now is to his open incitement of terrorism - that's all this was - it is still breathlessly covering him. That is what allows him to persist at all. He's already at the point where he deserves dismissive two sentence references once a week, if that.

His excuse for the "gaffe" shouldn't even get the privilege of print run. Instead, you'll hear talking heads forcefully asserting for the next 4 days that he was patriotically calling on real Americans to vote. They'll be given a voice and an audience by the media as a matter of course. That's what I'm talking about.

In fact, here is a great example of the pathetic state of discourse. This is the NPR Left, Right and Center podcast. Appearing for the right are Rich Lowry, a reliable conservative and reasonably good example of a conservative intellectual, who is also a #NeverTrump guy, and also A.J. Delgado, an attorney and conservative columnist who is honestly one of the worst and most brazenly and wildly dishonest conservative trolls I've ever, ever encountered.

If you listen to that podcast you will experience one of the highest-brow outlets in politics in the process of complete debasement by Ms. Delgado's mere presence. There's not one word she says that belongs within any professional publication in any format.

Moreover, she's also a complete embarrassment to anyone who is a member of any bar. This is a person having, in my opinion, no credibility, no integrity, no candor, and no redeemable soul.

With his escalating vindictiveness and mania, Trump probably isn't that far from sprinkling a few pubes into some random Executive Membership Card envelopes being sent out.

I'm still debating the cost benefit of ordering one to throw down at a dinner with friends or perhaps a Trump t-shirt for Halloween.

I'd wait after November and buy one off Ebay from disgruntled Trumpkins for a tenner.

If I spend any money on this election it'll be probably be on a "Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos" T-shirt.

Hell, they'll probably be 50% off by early October. In fairness, I may buy a $5 'woman card' from Hillary. Already shipped her $100, shoulda bought merch.

the card looks like that thing Telly Savalas used to hawk on late night TV remember that?

"Tell 'em Telly sent you!" and you supposedly got treated like a whale at Vegas casinos or something

Seems like a brilliant idea because casinos would definitely treat guys who bought something like that like they were morons liable to light money on fire.

YES! and I had that phone number memorized as a kid 1-800-257-1234 because virtually anything you wanted to buy from any infomercial required calling that one number

Yeah the media was "hostile" to Trump in that they reported "Kasich says..." and "Some Democrats say..." stuff about him, but their treatment of him is within the bounds(mostly) of normal campaign coverage. "Ban Muslims" got coverage like "47% of people...", instead of a "HOLY **** THIS DUDE IS A FASCIST IDIOT".

Palin got lit up far worse for her word salad gaffe answers, literally every question about policy Trump betrays a complete lack of knowledge. Trump's surrogates get equal time to spew conspiracy theories and racism as other teams dorky policy wonks talking about the logistical problems with deporting 11 million people.
