These sorts of articles are based on the fantasy that Liz Cheney holds sway over GOP voters and other members of the GOP in Congress. That seems plausible if you are highly educated and you live in NYC, Boston, DC, etc. Many affluent Republicans in those areas want the traditional GOP business agenda, but they dislike Trump's nationalism, buffoonery, and disregard for democracy. In other words, a lot of Republicans in those areas do indeed prefer people like Liz Cheney to Trump.

But we have conclusive evidence that the horse (Trump derpism) has run away with the traditional rider (establishment Republicans). The majority of GOP voters dislike Liz Cheney almost as much as they dislike Democrats.

He tried executive power. SCOTUS overruled (most of) it.

He tried legislative power. Congress said no.

He tried the bully pulpit you're always suggesting by literally comparing anyone that doesn't fall in line with segregationists and today Manchin and Sinema said "We're good".

What levers are left to pull at this point? Trump was able to "do whatever he wanted" because what he wanted was largely undoing things like regulations and appointing judges (the one thing Biden is actually just saying "Ok, I'll break the rules too" and doing). Trump didn't actually get anything done (no Wall, no ACA repeal, etc. etc.) because he couldn't.
