It's not even that exhausting. We lost by 77,000 votes in 2016. Hillary got roughly the same number of votes as Obama in 2012 (65.8M to 65.9M respectively). Trump got 2 million more votes than Romney got in 2012 (62.9M to 60.9M, respectively).
Make your own mental pie chart of how many of that 2M voted for Trump and how many voted against Hillary. If the "against Hillary" piece is even 4% (80,000 votes), then we picked the wrong candidate.

Our guys are going to vote for us. Their guys are going to vote for them. Either find a way to make the mercs like our guy, or find a guy that doesn't piss the mercs off enough to vote for the other guy. Ez game.
