The shutting down of the government is not something the Democrats just randomly voted on. Its the culmination of months of reprehensible Republican behavior.

If you had to assign blame for shutdown its overwhelmingly on the Republicans. The Democrats standing their ground and actually doing it, IS something they should own, but by simply saying "Dems shut down the government" as a headline youre being insanely irresponsible and ignoring months of context.

Which is why neither that Push notification nor I is saying that. That you're incapable of understanding that nuance is the height of irony. Go re-read it. Slower this time.

It's not that many words, take your time:

"Dems blocked passage of stopgap spending bill"

If you can't parse that simple sentence for what it's saying, that' on you. They aren't assigning overall blame. They are reporting that the Dems voted down some random hail Mary. Full stop. Be better dude.

The hysteria over this is really, really, really energy that's better spent elsewhere

This might be true for Rs in swing states. For 90% of them it doesn't matter, they are getting reelected no matter how unpopular they are

So, the republican message here was that

Democrats would rather protect illegals (a lie, dreamers are here legally under DACA and were brought here as children) than fund the military (a lie, McCaskill proposed funding the military and Turtle objected) or insure poor kids (a lie, republicans have blocked CHIP funding for months over daily calls from Democrats to fund the program)l

The republican base clearly just believes all the lies, and counter-evidence only makes them dig in. In general, the dems can't seem to get the voters to punish all the lying.

How do you combat an political opponent who will just shamelessly lie about whatever is happening?

As men, I think we need to recognize that as a group we are generally pretty terrible. That said, the men capable of recognizing this likely aren't the ones most responsible for us being a terrible group of humans.
