And your previous post, re: Italians, sounds like something a racist would write when they think their not being racist.

News flash Pelosi being Itallian has NOTHING to do with what's going with the potential government shutdown.

I really also want to know why the stock market was down on the day the bill was signed and the next day if it was 100% the reason for the run to start this year.
You’re attributing things to me I didn’t say such as all companies benefit, or that the tax bill was 100% of the reason for the run. Why the market went down on those days was addressed already and ultimately is irrelevant to my point, as you well know.

You're saying that the tax bill is indisputably leading to a higher market. I want you to prove that, but you repeatedly dodge the question. There is no proof that this is the case. Separately, it is possible for objectively good news to result in the opposite market reaction which you also fail to acknowledge.

Whether the bill is “good” or “bad” has nothing to do with Goofy’s post that he had zero to do with the market. It’s an absurd take, even if the only credit you want to give him is beating Hillary and taking a veto away from the Dems, and seems pretty obvious he deserved more credit than they.

I mean, you disagreeing with the bolded is the absolute hottest of takes. You have even acknowledged it is the conventional wisdom. I mean, lol it’s literally the liberal talking point (the corporate tax cut being one of two ways wealth is shifted to the rich in that bill) I don’t need to prove anything, it’s literally company valuation 101. You’re the one with the fringiest of fringe takes here.

Huh?

The American market has probably been better shaped by the loosening and elimination of regulations, as well as the destruction of the government protection agencies that usually protect against companies that abuse such.

The tax cuts and like everything else are not helping the vast, vast majority of people. A silly thing like stock market up=good for the economy is uh, dubious especially contextualized within the actual decisions being made by the US Govt.

I never said stock market up was necessarily good for the overall economy nor did I say the corporate tax cuts were the sole contributor to the 2017 market results

Re: SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

But if you're giving Trump credit for something...shouldn't you only be giving him credit for things that you believe to be a positive?

Because the argument that Trump gets credit for the tax cuts, which maybe are good for the market, which are maybe good for the economy seems...volatile at best?

I'd concede there is evidence that Dumb Donnie and the tax cuts were likely boosting the markets if the US market was outperforming the world markets but they are not. The smart money realizes that electing Dumb Donnie and having him break all his campaign promises to implement a plutocratic agenda drastically increases the chances of the guillotines coming out in 2020. Not to mention a catastrophic event in the interim period. And its company valuation 101 that a company's value is based on much more than their tax rate for ~3 years. Therefore, you are completely wrong on the narrow and largely irrelevant point you insist on making. Your posting is bad and you should feel bad.

Do you acknowledge that conventional wisdom is often wrong when it comes to markets? I am suggesting that.

I am also suggesting that markets typically react to news quickly and the markets didn't even budge upwards when the bill was signed. If people have been buying stocks the first 3 weeks of 2018 because of the tax bill why weren't they buying immediately after it was signed?

As has been mentioned, the assumption it would get passed was a consensus one wellllllll before it got passsd. And we are talking about 2017 not 2018. And my point specifically is about what would happen if the policy got reversed tomorrow.
