I looked that up to see if it was completely made up. Turns out the story is he donated 1M of his own money towards Harvey relief efforts. Which makes sense because those were real Americans.

Based on the description of his preparations which included remote cameras outside his room to watch for police/security this guy had zero intention towards making an escape and just wanted to kill as many as he could before he was taken out. He apparently fired so many rounds so fast that he set off the smoke alarm in his room which helped pinpoint his location much quicker than he expected given that according to a police source he had 8 assault rifles and about 200 loaded magazines so possibly 5k+ rounds in the room with two shooting platforms set up in a corner suite which gave him a wide field of fire.
