You turn on your TV and you've got Donald Trump lying to you about bringing back those ancient-ass jobs you highly value (whether you had one or not, or your daddy had one, whatever). He heard your complaining, though, for sure, because he's directly addressing it.

Hillary is over there talking about deplorable white people who support that huckster, and about high-minded **** that has nothing to do with your idea of what sucks about America. She mentioned increasing minimum wage but you still don't have a job.

I take pwns's point to be, partly, that THAT VOTER at least knows Trump claims to care about them, while Hillary for sure looks like she doesn't give a **** about that voter, and in fact hates that voter.
Hey I may be hard working and I may be a person but what was the other thing you called me?

I get you're locked into this shame spiral but we're still left with people paying attention to that diseased maniac and finding anything he says credible which only begs the question how any of these people have even managed to keep themselves alive out there.

I think the story is actually quite sympathetic. Guy works in coal 20-30 and is let go, grew up in some relatively patriotic family/america first, sees news talk about syrian refugees and feels americans/dems care more about them than him, just wants to work, why has he been forgotten? Told he'll be taken care of, but wants to take care of himself.

Most people just want to work their jobs 40 hours a week and find a bit of happiness. Obviously they aren't ranting on the interwebs or care about trans rights or anything very much.

Also I like this comic and there are some other good ones in there.

So, (and this isn't simply directed at you, of course) do we have to ONLY care about coalman OR refugees? Can't we do both?
SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics) Quote

You can care about both.

Personally I think there is some merit through reciprocity and cultural homogeny type things to care about fellow citizens who can vote more than refugees who we displaced through war mongering (which I disagree with).

Also I know a lot of people bring up the fact that you can discuss both X and Y but it does seem like some topics crowd out other topics in a very real and disproportionate way to how important they are. We only have so much time and brain processing power.

I'll maybe come up with some other stuff but I doubt you really care.
so wait, you dont like trickle down? and you are blaming the dems for trickle down?

if so, you are like massively ill informed. like, proly the most ill informed person on this site and that is even taking into account the trolls and shills in chezland.

bro, the ppl who care the most about trans rights and who are pursuing laws in regards to trans ppl are the friggin republicans.

see, this is how I know that you are full of sht. you are just another brainwashed partisan simpleton who swallows the bull**** that the republicans and conservatives throw out there and you absolutely refuse to actually inform yourself on the true state of things.

Also there really aren't that many coal workers and Trump didn't win because of them. All the people I know who voted Trump are pretty well off and just hate minorities, poor people, and especially poor minorities.

And the notion that Trump won because Fly calls everyone racist and hurt their feelings is essentially ******ed. Turns out Fly has actually been understating how racist Americans are, pretty significantly so at that.

Then why don't they use their bootstraps to get the skills required to get a job? Just sounds like they're asking for handouts to me.

You wouldn't last a day in a coal mine. Neither would I but I'm just pointing it out to you.

As long as you realize that the modern Republican party and Trump himself is not even close to what your vision is. Unless you consider destroying entitlements without the realization of anything else progress. I think you're smart enough to know that entitlements + ****ty democrat policies is better than running the country by ****ing people over + no entitlements though. Trump and the Repub party are not anyone's libertarian, ancap, etc. ideal - all he is, is an oligarchic moron that cares nothing about Americans except their votes and if you can't see that, than political discourse is useless.

Most of the people I know who were Trump voters are just rural people and don't have any concept of what the government is or does (despite receiving millions in farm subsidies year in and year out, somehow)

If you live in the middle of nowhere and that's all you've ever known, any idiot can talk you into anything.

That's part of the reason why coal is an inefficient, obsolete commodity and the jobs aren't coming back

There was a recent (Newsweek?) poll that had like 60% of republicans believing college/secondary schooling institutions were bad for the country. How do you recover from That?
