Perez's options are to bend the knee and fund ads anyway, or do what he's doing, which is respect the guy's wishes. It may be that Quist is right, and that Perez has concluded that Quist maxes his odds by remaining Bernie-ish.

So yes, there is a reasonable narrative here that goes: the DNC is so ****ty that not being involved in close races because of its own unpopularity is an acknowledged GTO strategy.
Yep. Also, the ex post narrative that KS-04 should've been a lock for Dems if the national party just donated more is pretty rich. There isn't a single district in the country represented by a Democrat that's as GOP leaning.

Re: SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

And the tough part about it is that it's a very asymmetric issue. People love to say that a substantial majority of the American public supports stuff like expanded background checks, which is all well and good. However, except in the immediate aftermath of a mass shooting, it's a fringe issue. Look at how Bernie was able to position himself as the true progressive hero this country needs while being fairly far to the right on gun control as far as Democrats go. It's clearly something that most on the left are willing to compromise on. However, to the hardcore gun supports on the right, it's a complete nonstarter. And given the outsized influence rural states have in government, it's something that's going to be very difficult to change on a national level.

National gun control was almost certainly never going to happen. The real prospect for action was individual states enacting tough gun laws, which would be upheld by a 5-4 court with Clinton Justice in the majority overturning Heller.

Lol per the NYT, Trump told the Russians he fired "Nut Job" Comey to ease "great pressure" off him concerning Russian investigation.

Holy ****

Re: SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

what's really odd is Spicer is confirming the document as true. it's apparently written down in a widely circulated document?

it feels like this is even clearer evidence of obstruction than what Comey wrote down and Trump denied? no?

I know I should dislike Comey because of the Hilary stuff, but given what we know of him (and from his testimony) it really seems like he legit thought that going to Congress with the Hillary stuff, even so close to the election, was the correct move.

He was wrong, but it's hard to believe it was malicious.

Comey made the mistake like basically every democrat makes over and over and over again: thinking they are preemptively preventing a right wing smear campaign by indulging right wing fantasies. How's dropping the public option working out?

Re: SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

It really does look like another example of the standard left failure, which is to GRAVELY and HUGELY underestimate the depravity, dishonesty, gamesmanship, corruption and basic horribleness of the opponent, and as a result assume an obligation to maintain the veneer of transparency so that in comparison the left looks more honest.

Which is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT because NO ONE who is even SUSCEPTIBLE to the right even CARES about ANY of that.

Win the ****ing game on behalf of reason. Comey failed in that way. Just like every other intelligent but not smart left political operative.

Agree. If anything he seems like a guy who gives no ****s about politics and to whom independence matters more than all else. Honorable, really.

Yeah, you don't have to think someone is being malicious to dislike them.

Reading between the lines:

- Bannon was concerned long ago about Kushners Russia ties
- Kushner was the one who led the charge to ax Come
- someone in the current staff is being eyed

= Rut roh Kushner
