The commercials followed by the ethangate thing is what got all the state eyeballs on DFS. Then once that happened the special interests in the states (religious groups, indian gambling interests, etc) put their 2 cents in.
With how fast the industry grew, maybe something like that would've happened sooner or later regardless but 100% the mass advertising was the cause of it. And despite the fact most people are cool with more liberal gambling laws, people loathed those 2 sites because of the advertising.
