I admit, yes the odds cannot be 0%. But they were pretty damn close.

...yeah Wow...Columbine...Parkland...Sandy Hook...Orlando...Las Vegas...El Paso...etc...etc...etc...but yeah a bunch of MAGA guys shooting down lawmakers in the State Capitol building for essentially doing nothing else but going to work and doing their job...wait THAT'S THE STRAW...in a sick way I almost want to actually see that if that is ultimately the change we'll get...but if dead children and random innocents aren't pushing that change, dead politicians won't either.

lol @ gun rights movement ever dying in the US. Scalise got shot/put in a wheelchair and he won't even vote for gun reform.

I think it would be different. They couldn't blame "mental illness." They couldn't hide behind "open carry." It wasn't just "one deranged madman." That's what would make it different, not really the lawmaker factor.

Look, obviously I caused a lot of uproar saying I wouldn't be scared. And I sometimes think it's difficult for non-Americans to understand what seeing a gun like that in public is like. It just seemed very obvious to me, looking at and hearing about the scene, that these people had zero intention of ever firing a shot. They're still morons. That should still be illegal. But they were never firing.

My point is apolitical, so I won't further derail.

I would think a bunch of kindergartners being gunned down would be different.

It wasn't: Now's not the time for politics.

I'm American, in a very red state.

I hate seeing people packing.

It's different to you and I, but the cult's arguments are never framed through victims, they're always focused on the perpetrators. These perpetrators, doing it in that way, is extremely different from "just another sicko" like Sandy Hook was.

You think they're going to be consistent?!?

Few bad apples will be the take.

You literally just said they're in a cult.

They're beyond introspection.

You don't need them to be consistent overall. You only need enough of them. You can flip a lot of suburban purples in that scenario imo.

Look, if that wouldn't flip enough people, then why are we even here itt? **** would be utterly hopeless.

We are eventually going to progress on this issue. Especially as more and more move to cities.

They get their marching orders from Fox.

A lot of right-wing suburban people eventually became concerned about COVID, the bulk of them are back to calling it the flu.

eta: misread "purples" as peoples.

I guess agree to disagree. I know a lot of Kasich-y types. They live in purple areas and they don't shoot guns or give a **** about the NRA.

More importantly, the data show the trend moving in gun control's favor

Right, I'm knee deep in gun-loving Idaho.

The purplish (and largely blue) areas around (Montana, Oregon, Washington) are very pro gun. I can't speak to other areas outside of the national sentiment that I gather from conservative media on their side.

I'm more pessimistic about where we're heading bc where we're at doesn't surprise me. I saw Trump as a real possibility back in '12. I'm sure my local outlook has me a bit jaundiced, but then again the D's are feckless and weak so it seems like foolhardy optimism imo.

Ruby Ridge and Waco are rallying cries for gun nuts. They want someone to get shot someday to turn into a huge martyr - just not themselves personally.

The **** will hit the fan someday - the gun nuts will be 100% at fault - but get ready for endless handwringing and both-sidesing about what have we become as a nation and the nature of tyranny and other nonsense. That's their white privilege and they know it.

Popularity has nothing to do with it when plenty of people who have soft support for gun control will whole-heartedly support a party that is stridently against gun control in any way shape or form, even measures that are both sensible and popular.

American here; anxiety attack if I see a dip**** with a gun in public. It’s not the gun so much as the little pieces of metal that come flying out of them at great speed.

If I saw anyone holding an assault rifle while yelling and being emotional, I can only hope I’d start running before I started pissing my pants.

Have you ever actually been near someone holding an assault rifle while yelling some insane rhetoric?

Yeah, I can handle the guys carrying a pistol or something in a holster even though I think it's dumb, but if I see someone open carrying a long gun in public, that's immediately a more tense situation.

I've been around guns my entire life and there's no reason to carry them in public, let alone open carry them. It just adds more volitility to already unstable situations.
