SE FAQ and "zero tolerance" bannable offenses (updated 05/04/08)

Please note the two excerpts from the guidelines at the bottom of this post:

2. Don't publicly ask for people to be banned.

3. Do not call people names. "You are a dick" "You are a retard" "You are a moron, donkey, *******, asshat" etc are not going to work. You can say someone's post is illogical, not thought out, ignorant, etc. But no direct attacks.

Too much time being wasted on all of the mods behalf on this nonsense, so it's now zero tolerance so there's no ambiguity and everyone gets treated the same. You've all been warned. 2nd offense is 2-days, 3rd is 3-days, and so on.

First Offense
GREEAR10 - Called Kyleb a Cleveland slappy and continued to go from there
Kyleb - Called Vyse an idiot
Vyse - the "you're incapable of thinking for yourself" comment is really over the line.
Spence - called user "piece of ****" and other trolling.
lisac48 - called someone an idiot and had horrid posts
Zach Belden - called user a *****
Schmitty 87 - name calling
Thundercat32 - One day for hatefully using "dyke". No anti-gay stuff is pretty standard 2p2 policy.
EPiPeN11 - name-calling, trolling. Extended to four days for circumventing. And trolling while circumventing, no less.
Bobbofitos - ugh. asking to "ban this troll" publicly instead of via pm
MT2R - personal attack on Edge
Edge34 - trolling, baiting.
Dschmeidreu - name calling
Triumph36 - explitives at posters.
MuresanForMVP - derailing thread with personal insults
Shoe - asked for ban
jah7_fsu1 - called other poster a tool
Bacats32 - name calling
POKEROMGLOL - name calling
Blue Celery - Name Calling
Ledders - Name Calling/Trolling
Fatshaft - Name Calling/Trolling
Once and Future King - Trolling via Gimmick
thasaltcracka - name calling
Iplayboard - trolling
apple11 - Telling other user to **** off
NemoInDeniaL - Name calling
BarryC83 - "*****" not acceptable
rebuyboy - personal insult
ALLTheCookies - relentless trolling in baseball threads despite a previous warning to settle down
xxThe_Lebowskixx - Called Thay3r a retard.
kidcolin - called vyse a clown

Second Offense
Epipen - Calling Vyse Ignorant, Bozo, etc.
Kyleb - name calling
Dschmeidreu - blatant FAQ violations despite many chances and warnings
Vyse - Acting like a dick to people for NOT READING HIS POSTS IN THE THREAD even though none of those posts existed.

Third Offense
Kyleb - derailing thread with personal insults
Dschmeidreu - Trolling, then continuing to troll despite the offending post being deleted to save him from himself
Vyse - way over the top trolling of kidcollin

Fourth Offense
Dschmeidreu - Over the allowable d-bag line.

Other
Shoe2 - 1 week for circumventing ban, etc.

Sporting Events Posting Guidelines:

1. No posting links to illegal/pirated/unpaid for video streams. This includes NFL, UFC, etc. This is 2+2 policy so there's nothing to be done about it.

2. Don't publicly ask for people to be banned.

3. Do not call people names. "You are a dick" "You are a retard" "You are a moron, donkey, *******, asshat" etc are not going to work. You can say someone's post is illogical, not thought out, ignorant, etc. But no direct attacks.

4. Use informative thread titles. This isn't that hard. I've been modifying threat titles to make them more transparent, but at some point I'll just start locking stuff.

4b. No more ***********'s or OFFICIAL in the thread title. First original thread on a topic is the official thread. We don't need to formally call shotgun. Also, please put the year at the end of the title. This will help people more readily read the front page.

5. Mild trolling is ok, the whole lot of us are trolls. But there's a line, and people who cross it will be asked to cease. None of us want to ban anyone, so let's all behave like adult trolls.

6. There's already a thread on your topic. Find it. Very little of this stuff is original, and your cute variant really isn't worth its own thread. We've got enough clutter that is unavoidable with all the season-long team/conference/league dedicated threads. Help manage it. I've been locking lots of stuff and that trend will continue.

7. Levelling is cute, but let's stop it. Sarcasm is fine, as is really obvious stuff, but the totally deadpan level which is obviously designed to get someone to react with a ZOMG post, really isn't productive.

8. Just because you'd like a poll, it doesn't mean it's worthy of starting a totally new thread. Yeah, it sucks that you can't do mid-thread polls anymore, especially for fantasy football stuff, but polls are lazy ways to start thread and most are constructed poorly anyways.

I guess asking why Bassy Telfair isn't in anyones top 50 might fall under rule 7. Shame, I enjoy the deadpan level so much too.

Re: SE FAQ and "zero tolerance" bannable offenses (updated 2/17/08)

question - is it cool to call a group of people names? for example, i would like to call most everybody in the big11 basketball thread a "bunch of freakin' retards who seem to be incapable of rational thought" but before i do that i'd like to make sure i'd not get banned for it

can I be warned or put in the first offense thing or whatever for typing the following to edge, "I question the high school that allowed you to graduate without knowing what and/or means"

can we just have one thread dedicated to people flaming others so as to not derail others?

locking the stupid athletes thread was a premature mistake

I've got 3 bans from that abortion of a thread. I don't have time or inclination to salvage it. No dice.

Plus, most of that stuff can just as easily go in the video thread.

Sorry that it was your thread that got derailed.

Oddly enough ball posting is encouraged. I dunno, Clark likes ball posts I guess.

Clark, tuq, etc.-

a recent run of posts in the Celtics thread has made me think that a "retard prop bet" ban should be invoked. Anybody who responds to an opinion with a stupidly one-sided prop bet that nobody would ever take should be banned for a day, increasing a day for each offense. What do you think?

well only if you lay me some decent odds on the celtics not getting swept in their first round playoff series

Meh, it's not all that prevalent, and people like to prop bet in this forum. We can keep it in mind, but I don't think it's that big of a deal yet.

Re: SE FAQ and "zero tolerance" bannable offenses (updated 3/31/08)

I kind of agree with Truth. People like to make predictions that Vegas oviously disagrees with. Like, Kansas wins this by 10, just watch, etc etc. Then inevitably at least one person says "oh, really? How about you lay me Memphis +10". Then the guys says "wtf, why would I do that when I can bet Kansas +2 online." Then possibly few more posts of flaming. Not a huge derailing, but I wish we'd all troll people who respond with dumbass prop offers more often.

Threads that tend to be littered with name calling and trolling:

QB threads
NY sports threads
Bos sports threads
NBA thread when a Laker game is on
Clutch threads
All threads on college football

a certain amount is apparently tolerated. Whatever that amount is, is not specified.

Just for clarification, what if it's just Dschmeidreu's family but not him?
