Doesn't look like any notable fighters on the undercard for GGG-Canelo which is a little disappointing. Hopefully will get to see Callum Smith and Saunders earlier that night tho

Wasn't it Willie Monroe?

Yes it is. I predict Saunders winning unimpressively and then calling out GGG/Canelo, with no real intention of fighting them

I could see Monroe beating Saunders. Saunders has been inactive and looked awful lately. It's not easy for some of these guys to remain motivated and stay in top form. Just look at BJS' buddy Tyson Fury. Their co-workouts didn't exactly seem to have the desired effect.

You don't know that, maybe BJS got some of that good coke so it wasn't all for naught.

i could def see monroe deserving a pretty ****ty decision win v BJS but monroe has no punching power and i really doubt he can win a decision on the road. i expect a better saunders than last time out though he was very open about the fact that he fought like complete trash

Fwiw Saunders is training under the Ingles now and is in the best shape of his life. Think he'll scrape a UD.

Bud vacated the IBF belt to avoid the mandatory. Obvious move since he's headed to 147 after another fight or two, but still a shame to see him give one up.

It's a really tough fight to handicap. With a few exceptions, both fighters have looked pretty much invincible. GGG looked a bit off against Jacobs. Canelo obviously lost to Money and got a controversial decision against Lara iirc. Otherwise they are rock solid. Might be the most entertaining fight this year.

Seems like Loma v Rigo is on, rumors are that it will be at 130. Think Loma has the edge at 130 and wins by KO. Might not even be close with Rigo carrying so much weight.

Personally, GGG seems to have gotten easier to hit in recent times and be slightly past his best. Some have said that he doesn't respect his opponent's power so gets lazy / ploughs forward so long as he lands enough of his own. I guess we'll see against Canelo as he'd be more careful against him you'd think. I'd give Canelo the edge though.

I actually think walking down Canelo is his best shot. He'll get outboxed in a pure boxing match and the iron chin+power basically goes last as fighters age.

Golovkin lets people hit him to put on a show but he is much more careful against big punchers like Jacobs, Lemieux and Canelo no doubt.

His chin is ridiculous. He's never been down in a long amateur career or even sparring apparently. I think you would be very foolish to think Canelo will KO him, but he might outbox him.

GGG cuts off the ring and puts relentless pressure like nobody Canelo has faced, so I'm edging toward GGG.

But this is also GGG's best opponent by some distance. The only guaranteed winner is boxing fans!

It's funny, GGG has a phenomenal amateur record so was clearly adept at points scoring in that form of boxing. As a pro he's always seemed lazy to me. His power and chin are quite something though and I guess he knows that.

This Canelo seems like a respectful guy so I don't know who to pull for but it can't be far from a flip.

i love this fight so much i'm so damn mad i have a wedding that night. does anyone know of the best way to watch the fight the next day? obviously my phone will be off the whole time because i know some friend will spoil it for m but my plan is to get my gf to bring it up on my computer or something at the airport...if you buy the ppv through goldenboy streaming is it still available next day?

as far as handicapping the fight i'm with most people on this one in that i thought a year ago or def 2 years ago GGG deserved to be like a 3-1 or 4-1 favorite or so but i really don't know now. i think jacobs is way better than ppl give him credit for so i don't hold that against GGG but its impossible to ignore that he has to be getting older and more out of his prime. i have a sickening feeling that GGG is going to have an incredibly hard time winning a fair decision v canelo with judges in what will be a partisan crowd even though ~everyone loves GGG too.

i don't think canelo's last 2 years have done him any favors at all though he has never been in the ring with anyone like GGG lately but i absolutely think canelo is a consummate professional and i really do think we will see his best for this fight. i don't necessarily like him but i respect him and think he is a very hard worker and will not back down. the million dollar question in this fight is how well will canelo's chin hold up? we have never ever seen it tested. if i had to bet my life i think i would bet GGG by KO at some point. i think canelo screwed himself in taking the last few joke fights and i think he will lose a lot of rounds early being way too cautious after he tastes GGG power. but i'm not confident in that prediction at all. we know GGG has a great chin and i think canelo's power is overrated personally although he is capable of some vicious body shots. BUT i do buy into the notion that canelo is a boxer entering his prime and we have not seen his best yet so he could take it to a new level imo. hows that for fence sitting

Things that give GGG trouble:
Fast feet, fast hands

Things that give Canelo trouble:
Floyd Mayweather

This is such a perfect fight. Brook had fast hand and feet and GGG simply walked through him and broke his face. Jacobs and had fast hands and feet and managed to give GGG a long night, albeit with minimal damage.

Canelo hasn't fought anyone with real skill for so long it's hard to say how he'll do at this level. He's going to meet GGG and hope to lure him into his crisp counters, but the problem is that GGG will still be doing damage and I'm not sure Canelo can actually hurt GGG. If GGG can force Canelo back into a corner and control him, Canelo is going to get broken down.

The only thing that gives me pause is that GGG has looked flabby as all hell recently. He's just looked tremendously out of shape for him. The 170 weigh in is a non-issue since he's weighed in that heavy before and done well, but that gut is off putting.

Heart says GGG by TKO in the 9th but my bet will be on Canelo by UD because Oscar won't let the judges go against his guy

Not sure, but I can tell you that FMJ/CM was available on youtube the very next day.

Awesome thoughts, guys. This is why I posed the question here. You are all so much more knowledgeable than I wrt the current boxing scene. Thx! As of now, I like the idea of laying off and just enjoying the show. Can't wait.

Canelo-5'9" 70.5 in. reach
GGG- 5'10" 70 in. reach

Rarely do we get such a close matchup.
