If it was "about the money" I'd understand that, but it isn't. Furthermore, even a 50% cut of a PacMan fight is more than he can make at a larger cut vs. other opposition. People buy into the stupid **** Mayweather says because they're sheeple. "I don't KO people because I don't want to get hit"... wtf? Since when did anyone who got KTFO hit anyone? Absurd. You could argue its better game planning, a lack of warrior spirit, humility or whatever. But to think for a moment that someone standing throwing punches hits you less than a guy flat on his ass is just plain ******ed.

Brilliant. Stick to your commentary with your "experts".

In order for Mayweather to KO people he would have to take more risks and throw harder slightly more telegraphed punches that would leave himself open to get hit a lot more than he does. There some fighters out there who just have amazing power, like Mosley when he was at lightweight or a prime Mike Tyson where they don't have to do anything that's outside of their comfort to deliver KOs. Mayweather is smart enough to realize he is not one of those guys and fighting a technical defensive counter punching style will make him near impossible to beat. If he goes out there and starts throwing haymakers which causes him to be off balance he opens himself up to take punches.

Don't try to talk about things that the "market" doesn't have an opinion for, because when you do try to come up with your own thoughts you fail miserably.

FWIW, if anyone cares about the actual reason that Floyd is such a defensive fighter (other than 'thats just his style'), it's partly because of how easily his hands break. He has brittle, brittle hands and actually uses a numbing agent drug on them every fight that isn't even legal in all 50 states (but is in Nevada) to help deal with the pain. That's one of the self-professed reasons why he isn't a volume puncher and counter-punches off his defense instead. I couldn't find the interview in 3 minutes of searching but it's out there somewhere. So that's part of the reason he adopted the style he has.

wow Vitali just ended Sosnowski in the 10th with a right. Fairly boring fight overall; the Englishman had a nice little run of punches in the 6th (7th?), but the Russian's just too damn big.

Edit: Sosnowski =/= English, but living there

I think they've broken 4-5 times in fights. That's just my recollection though, don't take it as exact. The numbing agent he injects into his hands is Xylocaine.

That's why he doesn't want to fight Manny in Dallas or any other state outside Nevada. It is only legal in Nevada but illegal everywhere else.

Supply proof of this.

Hint: There is none.

--

This fight should be in LV because its the most logical place to have it. Be it tax purposes or the fact that texas is a ****hole in regards to judging boxing fights.

In regards to Floyds hands, DannyOcean is correct.
Apparently this problem is now gone since the "retirement" and Floyd does not use Xylocaine in his hands anymore.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

labamba, i'm sure that there are at least some states that have banned Xylocaine. I don't think it's every state but Nevada though, it's off and on. I don't really think it's too much of an issue for me, i don't see it as much different than an athlete getting a cortisone shot to play.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yep.. Some states.

This discussion was up (on another forum) when it was actually fresh like 6 months ago.
The conclusion was that Xylocaine is not banned by NSAC, USADA, WADA nor most of the states.

In some states is is banned and the statement that it is banned everywhere else but Nevada is completely incorrect.

--

Oh well. Its a non-issue anyway.
It is not banned and Floyd never used it for a fight nor does he use it now.

According to Keith Kizer, Mayweather never disclosed any use of Xylocaine before a fight.

Danny I know about the broken hands, but I'm just interpeting Floyd's comments, and that's what he's implying through them.

Actually, the closest I can come to actual, fact checked, information lists no states as having banned xylocaine (which makes sense considering the FDA doesn't ban it; states don't typically ban individual things the FDA has already ruled on).

Floyd's still being a *****, but he doesn't seem to be cheating.

Floyd should easily get more money, how is that even a question, he is definitely the draw.

Because...like...it's not cut and dry?

You can't just compare fights against similar opp. side by side because time frame is relevant. They're both largely equal draws (compared to their competition) and even more so when you consider that together they're greater than the sum of their parts.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Mayweather has the better background and is more established than Pacquiao. People who don't really follow boxing are more likely to know Mayweather than Pacquiao so he is going to draw the more casual fans to bring in higher revenues. A lot of casual fans had no idea who Pacquiao was until the De La Hoya fight and all the features that they had on the two fighters up until that fight. After that exposure is when all the talk of this fight happened. People knew who Floyd was but not as many knew Pac. That's why he should get more. When it comes down to it though, it's just splitting hairs which is pretty frivolous.

Re-read the last part of my post. PBF might be a bigger draw than Pac presently, but even if that were the case, and we don't know it is, it's irrelevant.

This is a super-mega-ultra fight and, as others have said, they'll make more for this fight then the total purse for fights with others. 50-50 is fair in this case when the fighters together are responsible for the draw.

Pac draws X, PBF draws Y, but together they're Z(X+Y) where Z is >1.

Quote:

For you and I, yeah it is. What else can we talk about though

For the fighters, it's anything but. It's going to be a major sticking point even though I agree it shouldn't be.

I still think this was set up by Mayweather's people to gain 52-55% of the purse in return for a more lenient testing cutoff (14 to 18 days).

Good fight.

btw, i stumbled on teddy atlas's speech in Moorer vs Holyfield. Without a doubt the best coach speech i ever heard in a boxing match. Unbelievable.

Floyd won't fight in 2010 and may even retire for 2 years. This is a newly released interview that he made on June 2, 2010. The video just got out June 4, 2010.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER OFFICIALLY DUCKS PACQUIAO!!!! (video)

Fast forward to the 1 Minute mark.

It's over. Floyd uses the Mayweather Foundation to duck Pacquiao.
