Insane.

If that's true, pacquiao deserves a good chunk over 50/50. 60/40 pac imo. I doubt floyd would agree to that, althought i migh be wrong.
but you know, what if a lot of the buys came from Puerto Ricans?

I am sure a lot of them did.

Mayweather should not accept less money than Manny.

Casual boxing fan here, but I'd be psyched to see this fight and would consider pooling with friends for PPV.

As of right now I'd be rooting for Pac, but I've rooted against Mayweather before and he ended up changing my mind partway through the fight.

I was in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the Hatton/Mayweather fight. I vaguely knew it was coming up from reading something on the internet, and then over breakfast in a British pub-style place I saw on the TV that it was going to be broadcast later that morning. I returned to the pub a few hours later to find it swarmed with Brits. I was rooting for Hatton anyway so I figured it was going to be great.

Then the crowd (on TV, not at the bar) booed during the national anthem, which I felt was pretty ****ing weak. Still, it wasn't quite enough to turn me against Hatton. I liked his reputation for being aggressive and scrappy. And the Brits in the pub seemed like good guys. Finally, the fight started. I could tell immediately that Hatton was outclassed. Mayweather was masterful. The crowd (again, on TV) kept on booing and acting ******ed. Suddenly I was like, "You know what? **** Hatton and his British army of fans. I hope Mayweather does beat his ass." And, of course, he did.

I can't stand Mayweather's personality, but his performance in the ring was just unbelievable. Combined with some seriously ******ed Hatton fans, it was enough to make me a Mayweather fan for the day.

So, I like Pacquiao on paper, but I can't say I would be disappointed (or entirely surprised) if Floyd tore him up on fight night.

Indeed. Cotto's popularity amongst boxing fans is extremely underrated.

This fight should be and will be 50/50 split ainec. Mayweather or Pacquiao camps saying otherwise is just annoying posturing for negotation purposes.

Speaking to KTLA News, Pacquiao issued a resounding statement that would possibly kick-off negotiations for what would probably be the biggest and richest fight in boxing history.

"Yes, I want to fight Mayweather," Pacquiao told KTLA.
omg omg omg omg omg omg

Anyway, another (very, very) causal boxing fan here. Could someone enlighten me about how much of the PPV money is going to wind up with the PBF and Pac total at the end of this?

Say there are three million buys at $50 each, so that's $150 million total. How much of that goes to stuff other than the boxers, i.e. promotion, agents, location, etc.? If it's a 50/50 split, then do they get almost $75 million apiece, or will it be like $70 million or $60 million apiece?

i think ppv is just Americans, no? believe they sell showing rights to overseas companies. in the Philippines, for example, companies sponsor the fight and its shown on public tv.

Here on Sky it will be £15 PPV on Sky Box Office. The cotto/pac fight was on skysports but this will defo be on box office.

Just a quick line on ladbrokes, you can bet on the fight now and if the fight takes place before start of 2011 then your bet is valid.

The odds are:

Mayweather 4/7 Draw 25/1 Pac 5/4

Wow, I'm thinking these are generous odds for someone betting Pacman. I expected Mayweather to be the underdog.

There is about zero chance PBF will open as the underdog.

Mayweather an underdog? I expected Pac to be around 2/1 with Mayweather at 1/3

Some sportsbook opened the line at Pacquiao -160 and several "pros" bet $20k each on Mayweather (presumably at +140). I would set the line at Pac -120 Floyd +100.

If this fight gets made, it has all the things needed to make it a mega-fight of our time. To make it a mega-fight of not only our time, but potentially of the century.

This may sound like hyperbole at first glance, but it really isn`t. Bert Sugar agrees with the idea, and he's seen them all.

If you consider how many times in the history of this sport, that 2 fighters of such exceptional ability met, that when P4P 1 and 2 met, and given the mass appeal they both have....

Pacquiao has his growing allegiance of fans, those of the Phillipiness he has gathered and had, those of the asian markets that are awakening to him, and those elsewhere who simply like who he is, the humble and modest man from the most humble of beginnings. An amazing talent, and exciting to watch. Living a dream we all dare to who step through the ropes, but so very few ever realize. It is the type of thing legends are made of.

And then there is Mayweather. Another talent for the ages. But in seemingly polar opposites in nature to his opponent in every way. Where Pac is modest, Mayweather is brazen, bold and outspoken. Flashing his money, or losing it, but making news and is a huge demand in the urban market and the hip hop market. He has marketed himself well as a semi-villian. Or maybe that is just who he is. But whoever/whatever he is, he is an amazingly gifted fighter, lightning fast with some of the best defence ever seen in the sport.

This fight really does need to happen, and it will. You'll see lots of posturing going on from Arum, and from the Mayweather camps in negotiations, in fact it is already going on....talk of %'s, of taking other fights if it doesn't work out, who needs who etc. But it will get made. It has to.

Boxing is so very far from dead that people thought, and I've been trying to say this to some for the last little while, on here and other boards. It is right in the middle of a big resurgance after a lull, and it is coming back stronger then it ever was. The numbers will speak for themselves when all is said and done with this fight. I have little doubt it will eclipse the PPV records set by Delahoya. These fighters are far better and people are starting to come around again to realize great boxing does not need to be the heavyweights of past to be fun to watch. Great boxing is wherever it is in weight, when the right people make their way to its pinnacle in ability and marketability.

In terms of global appeal, no doubt, it's unprecedented.

In terms of larger-than-life personalities coming together for a fight...it's been a while.

In terms of #1 and #2 P4P coming together, arguably the first time since Whitaker-Chavez in 1993, as alluded to in OP.

And since this is the biggest fight of the decade ainec, I'd have to agree it's the biggest fight of the century too, lol.

Roach on Mayweather in July 23-24 Interview
Quote:
The key to beating Mayweather is literally beat him up. You take what you can get. He is elusive but he can’t move his body. He is very quick with head movement. You break his body down, he has bad hands, bad ribs, bad knee and he’s had rotator cuff surgery. This is not a guess it’s the facts, period.
Mayweather relies on his elusive defense as a platform from which to work a meticulous offense consisting of quick bursts combined with exploitive counterpunches. His defense has never had to withstand the kind of relentless innovative all angles power attack which Pacquiao will launch. Not only is Pacquiao brilliant finding ad hoc openings in the ring, he is a good student outside the ring. Unlike De La Hoya, Pacquiao will bring the tools of speed, power, stamina, and execution to turn the keys Roach hands him in training camp for unlocking the Mayweather defense.

Mayweather will get in his share of punches early but with no more power nor effectiveness than Coto did. As the fight wears on and Pacquiao wears down his defense, the sparcity of Mayweather's offense will be exposed for the weakness it is. Mayweather is constitutionally incapable of launching the kind of lightning counterpunch-all out counter offensive which proved so troublesome for Pacquiao when he fought Marquez at lightweight.
