Nobody but Jim Watt could give that fight to Bute.

He's like the Skip Bayless of boxing.

Don't think you can give any more than 9 rounds to Pascal. Bute crushed those last 3 imo

he's an odd man. I do think he had a hard time with the weight (if we're looking for a logical explanation)
yea pascal has notoriously bad stamina

i mean makes some sense when you are huge i guess

Well those were a pair of poor fights.

Pascal has horrible balance and footwork. Early on he was just having to launch his entire body at Bute, who did not really make him pay. But Pascal wasted so much energy early on with wild launching shots.

The only really "good" part of that fight was Pascal's strategy to flurry a lot before the end of each round (good for judges on avg probably, but mainly bc a lot of rounds were fairly close until he did that, landed a few of the only real punches in the round, and won the round).

Pascal would make a nice sacrifice for Kovalev (similar to Stevens GGG I think), Bute might be a nice name for someone like Cleverly to stay around LHW a little while longer and beat on a comeback fight.

Bute looked like an over the hill boxer. No mustard on those punches, didn't land enough and/or avoid enough wild shots from Pascal to win too many rounds. I had it 8-4 Pascal.

I hope Adonis and Kovalev pass on Pascal for now, doesn't look intriguing to me.

I thought Perez lost 96-94 too. He looked like he wanted to be somewhere else and his opponent realized it after about the 4th round and started to come out of his shell (and won the last 6 rds imo).

Good, now that that's over, we can talk about Mikey Garcia, Charlo-Rosado Bryant Jennings and Jesse Hart (Philly!), Felix Verdejo (PR!), and Curtis Stevens and Antonio Orozco Friday night viewing! Also fakeass Lamont against a prospect I've never heard of who is 25-0 against 25 other people I've never heard of either.

Next weekend will be the best action so far this year though.

More evaluation of Garcia in the PFP context.. Verdejo/Jennings/Charlo are legit big-time prospects, and the latter two are definitely facing stiff competition.. Daytime card from Germany.

Pacquiao wants to fight Mayweather for free...

“I am ready to submit myself to any kind of stringent drug testing. Above all, I challenge him to include in our fight contract that both of us will not receive anything out of this fight. We will donate all the proceeds of the fight – guaranteed prize, should there be any, gate receipts, pay-per-view and endorsements – to charities around the world."

“As to my tax problem, my lawyers are fixing it already. I’m paying my taxes religiously. It is just a matter of reconciling our records with the tax agencies both here and abroad. Should there be any discrepancy, rest assured, I will settle it. I’m a lawmaker and I’m a law-abiding citizen."

losthawks, your post really gets me excited for some of these fights.

RE Manny, I'm not sure what I dislike more, Floyd bringing Manny up constantly as if he has some little man's syndrome over this conflict or Manny constantly trying to be mother theresa when it comes to commenting about this type of stuff. It's like a McGuire Sosa I did not take steroids claim, which one is more ridiculous?

That's whats up! Excited as I've been since 12/15, even considering I don't get to back to Seattle for a second straight ESPN FNF (sadface).

My take on Manny's comments is: it's hilariously unrealistic and oblivious to challenge a guy whose nickname is "Money", whose entire image is built on CREAM/if it don't make dollahs then it don't make sense, who is the highest paid athlete on the planet, to fight arguably his most dangerous opponent while simultaneously foregoing what would be without question his most lucrative payday.

He's awful. Does anyone remember a fight before Froch-Groves that was pretty competitive where he just fellated one of the boxers? Perhaps it was Mayweather-Guerrero where he made it out like it was a Calzaghe-Lacy style beatdown?

Didn't he fellatio Groves too?

That guy had Bute winning so many ridiculous rounds.

For anyone that wonders how a CJ Ross happens, a combination of ****ty pay, old people and no replay/tv (outdated system) gets us Jim Watt type scorecards.

It was Groves and he was actually winning the fight early. Froch came on and made it even but Watt was acting like Groves was winning a shutout.

Recent blurbs:

- Manny v Bradley II nearly finalized for April 12th.

- Froch says he's most likely to do Chavez Jr. first, then Groves II for his 2014 fights (man, I hope Vera wins and derails that).

- Danny Garcia looks to be fighting a scrub at 140lbs for his next fight (disappointing).

- Mikey Garcia taking the torch from Manny seems to be building momentum (in a late 2014 or early 2015 fight). Seems highly speculative, but it's juicy enough to mention. Garcia is still at 130lbs, though seems reasonable they could meet at 140lbs in 12 months time.

Pac-Bradley had to happen. Interesting to think about what might happen to both if they win/lose.

Canelo-Angulo undercard finalized today:

- Leo SC v Mijares
- Omar Figueroa v Canelo's Older Brother (the one with the tattoo)
- Carlos Molina v The Other Charlo Brother
- Nihito v Jorge Linares (off-ppv)

Shrug. Definitely think Angulo is a live dog (pun semi-intended) - No one has been able to expose a hole in LSC's game yet, but CM is definitely a legit challenge for him - Psyched to see Omar again ("panterita"!) - Molina-Charlo is gonna be a sordid affair

meh

FNF should be pretty good relative to normal, nbc fights kind of suck iyam, and fx1 fights are okay b- tier fighters

better than nothing for sure but nothing that gets me too excited...if orozco looks really good v huerta then i think there will be something to gain from the weekend and maybe he has a future

Shrug. There are at least six fights of ranging interest to me tonight and at least nine more scheduled for tomorrow. For me that qualifies as worth getting excited about. Yes, there's more quantity than P4P quality this weekend, but that's fine by me - there is still plenty of intrigue.

But if you're not interested in prospects or B-level fighters, that's cool - like being an NFL fan who doesn't watch/care about lower-tier college bowl games or HS football. Your scope is narrower.

Considering the appetizers and entrees, this weekend will be the best meal we get until March, a chance to get familiar with some talented prospects and enjoy some just-less-than-world-class pugilists. I'm taking advantage.
