Definitely not Broner's coming out party. Paulie did about as well as anyone could've really hoped for. He moved around well, but in the end, so many of those shots just missed or were closer to slaps than punches. I think Broner might've even landed more, just threw so few punches, not enough to seriously hurt Paulie.
Was really expecting more activity from Broner in this fight. He didn't dominate like he should've. I'd give him a C+ on playing the stalker role in this one.
I agree with those that say Broner shouldn't go looking for a Manny or Floyd type fight after this one. A guy 5-8th ranked at the 147 would be about as competitive as I'd get. Maybe if someone like Rios or Bradley pulls off an upset and doesn't get paired against Floyd or the other fight's winner, Broner might match up pretty well against those two, guys that sort of just sit in front of you and trade... Rios may not have the skill to beat Broner and Bradley may not have the power to sit in front of Broner, nor the intelligence to avoid doing so.
ya, agreed. and around the 5th/6th paulie cut off his side to side movement + combos and was simply back pedaling, making it rather easy for ab to land his straights and body shots.
and i disagreed with the announcers when they were saying ab didnt get in paulie's head. whenever paulie engaged in the trash talking/show boating he was outworked and stood in one place. it was driving me crazy.
nice post ChicagoRy, completely agree.
props to Paulie
I had Broner 7-5 but disappointed in his performance
he's so relaxed in there its ridiculous
I really thought he was going to open up in the second half of the fight
Paulie was incapable of hurting him from the jump obv
and then Paulie slowed down
everything set up perfectly
but then he still wouldnt let his hands go!
maybe after the first time he loses a tough decision he'll have a little more urgency
I thought Mitchell deserved it, though i missed the first two rounds.
Banks hit Mitchell's glass chin with too hard punches to even consider the possibility of the entire fight being a fix.
I meant the whole fight could have been a fix. Banks easily hurt Mitchell in the third round and for the rest of the fight he seemed worried that he might accidentally knock him out if he hit him again. Anyway they are both terrible and I don't want to see either again.
