This demand for the $10 mil penalty was totally justified because PBF cheated against JMM. Coming in overweight against someone who was undersized to begin with should also raise questions about PBF's character.

All this talk about PED, etc. Yes, I think the PED issue is most likely a big problem in fighting sports (including MMA), but I don't think PBF and his team raised the drug testing to set a good example and to clean up the sport. I believe they just did this to mess with Pac's head. Of course they'd have to demand that Mosley take the random testing. However, if there was no Pacman and Mosley was PBF's only option, I am pretty sure they wouldn't have asked for extra testing from Mosley, even with the BALCO ****. Just my honest opinion. I'm pretty sure he avoided Cotto (PBF fought Baldomir for **** sakes). This may really be due to his hate of Bob Arum, but I don't really know. Like I said before, at 135 and under I got to give PBF respect, but 140 and above, he's taken easy money.

Yes, and he was punished for it. Also, the NSAC already has rules in place for this. Why is Pacquiao so special?

You do know that the $600,000 PBF was paid to JMM because of their fight contract, right? So what if Pac asked for $10 mil, having these penalties are part of negotiating the contract. So I don't understand what so special for Pacquiao, besides the penalty amount.

That's my whole point. There are numerous variables in a fight that are dictated by the contract signed by the fighters. Ring size, glove size, shorts, etc. Some of these things are already overseen by the commission, but the two parties involve narrow what's allowed.

It's ridiculous to demonize Floyd for pushing for stricter testing because it's a "commission issue" when (nearly) anything and everything can be stipulated in the contract.

Fair enough. Floyd's still a pussy though.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

The two demands aren't really comparable are they? I mean 10MM for every lb. overweight is obviously huge, but it might as well be 1 Billion. All that guarantees is that Floyd will fight at weight.

The blood testing issue is different as everything I heard said that the standard drug testing is enough to detect anything and testing more/closer to the fight (given the distance between standard and requested testing times) wouldn't actually change anything.

Floyd has come in overweight before, so Pac would have cause to demand (via unreasonable penalty) that he make weight. Pac is rumored to have used steroids, so it's not unreasonable to ask for tests, but if the current tests are adequate, more blame is going to be rightly put on Floyd.

One of these things is not like the other...

Pacquiao hasn't gained any weight whatsoever in the last three years. Steriod accusations against him are pretty laughable.

you're ******ed. He weighs exactly the same amount as he did three years ago. There is no change in physique. Do your own search through this thread, which has screenshots of his weight for each fight for the last three years. He hasn't gained any weight.

Going back further, these weigh-ins differ by two days short of six years.

That is just not that much muscle to put on. 18 lbs officially (that is ignoring any rehydration issues), in 6 years. That is 3 lbs a year, for a world class athlete, famous for training like a demon, starting from a skinny frame, going from age 24 to age 30.

Now, talking about comparisons, you used to have an Arturo Gatti avatar, right? Please correct me if I am wrong. In October 1997, he weighed in at 130 lbs. In March 2001, he weighed in at 146 lbs. So, he officially put on 16 lbs, in less than three and a half years! Do you suspect he did this naturally, or with 'help'?

Edit: Oh yah, Floyd officially put on 15 lbs in 3 years, 6 months and 4 days, why are you not accusing him of anything?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

The testing arguments are so stupid. If there was an effective testing method that actually worked to some more than insignificant degree, I'd be like "Oh Hai there, good idea". But the idea that current testing doesn't catch cheats, but Olympic testing (One step below showing up at the Mr Olympia for sport cleanliness) is ****ing ridiculous.

The fact of the matter is that, in sport (amateur, and def pro ranks), there will always be cheaters that get away with it. I mean, how many years did Marion Jones compete? IIRC, she never tested positive, did she?

for the record, she did.

I think Barry Bonds has never had a positive test, though.

Heavyweight championship fight about to start. Wladimir Klitschko vs. Eddie Chambers. Klitschko is the huge favorite. It's not on tv, but you can watch it for free on www.justin.tv (and no, I'm not affiliated with that site in any way).
