Frank Maloney had to be treated by paramedics after the fight.

Price just got blindsided. A flush, undefended punch from nowhere will knock down a guy faster than a powerful shot that the guy has a couple of seconds to block or roll with the punch.

IDK if you can call that flush though, it didnt seem particularly powerful and it didnt seem to land particularly flush.

I mean it wasn't a monstrous shot, but that's exactly my point. You don't see coming, you don't have time to roll or prepare to take it. It was flush in the sense that it didn't go through any guard or glance off of his arm or anything like that.

Not saying that Price has a granite chin. Just saying that I'm not surprised that such a punch would cause a KO.

That shot on Price reminds me of Haye getting all but KO'd by a light punching blown up middleweight many years ago, where the punch landed on the back of the head. It made me dismiss Haye as glass jawed but he did pretty well all heavyweight so I guess you never know with those kind of shots. People have been saying Price is a bit chinny for years though.

Gutted for him really. He can have a good career no matter what but I hope he's more than a guy who wins a few, loses a few, and is just box office as you know there will be a KO one way or the other.

Fury vs Price would have been a mega fight here if they did it while they were still undefeated but it's still very interesting. Fury's chin isn't exactly concrete either.

You can never have too many big-hitting no-chin fighters in boxing.

Apparently Price had his eardrum perforated by that shot which explains his jelly legs afterwards.

A nice quote from Thompson when drug-tested after the fight:

"I didn't mind them drug-testing me. All they were going to find was doughnut juice and fried chicken. How can you look at my belly and tell me I am on something?"

Khan vs Julio Diaz. Awful, awful fight.

Yep, pretty bad fight, not sure what khan has to gain from this.

In other news it looks like Herbie has been a naughty boy

Chavez Jr. fined 900k and suspended for 9 months for failing the drug test after the Martinez fight. I get that some boxing fans are hardliners about drug tests but it was marijuana FFS. Seems pretty ridiculous to me. Dumb on his part but it is just weed after all and was 99% from a week before or something. 30% of the purse is steep

Previous highest fine was 100k. This seems vindictive in some way.

Nick Diaz (MMA) got almost the exact same punishment (12 months, 30% of purse) for the exact same reason (marijuana, but deemed a repeat offender*).

Vindictive, yes, but oddly consistent.

Diaz story

Chavez Jr. story

*In the Chavez article, it describes him as a 'repeat offender' for testing positive for a banned diuretic in 2009.

Regardless of personal opinion, it's a banned substance. He smoked it. He's not a first offender. Punishment makes sense.

yea, it's not really even open for discussion right now. Broner still feasting on lightweights in his cautious move up from super featherweight. He's only 23 and yet to be really tested. We'll see how he looks when he makes the move to junior welterweight - assuming he takes on the top fighters there. If he's as good as he has looked so far - and I think he probably is - then I'm thinking a Mayweather/Broner discussion could be cooking pretty hot in about 3 years. At 39 Floyd will be getting ripe for the picking. If he's still got it he won't want to risk his 0 against a prime 26 year old Broner. But the gambling demon latched on his back will demand to be fed one more time.

It's really remarkable that Hopkins at that age has the potential to still put on a master class. Of course he could flop around and slow the whole thing down and use every trick in the book doing so too which can be maddening to watch. But w/e it is, it's not a joke yet. At 48 yrs old.

Yup it is ridiculous that he can still win vs. elite competition at that age. I rewatched his fight with Trinidad a few weeks ago. Still think it is funny that he bet 100k on himself or w/e the announcers kept going on and on about.

BHop is basically the second coming of Archie Moore given his longevity.

He isn't the most entertaining fighter, but his accomplishments at such an advanced age are extraordinary.

Argenis Mendez just knocked Juan Carlos Salgado the **** out with a left hook on HBO Latino for the 130 pound belt. I didn't see the first fight but Selgado won a close decision and this rematch was a damn good war for 4 rounds. Probably a third coming eventually

yup

Thurman lookin good vs zaveck so far. He is definitely looking like he will be in the picture very soon I am real interested to see who his next fight will be against. Lots of options at 147 and a step up from Zaveck means a very legitimate opponent. Thurman could be a star.
