Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Congrats to Floyd Mayweather Junior. You did it bro, you dodged him when he was at the peak of his powers, you waited for him to drop off, all the time playing fight fans like a fiddle, coming in and out of the sport to cherry pick your next opponent for stupid amounts of money, you got it to a point where Pacquiao's public appeal and performances waned, then Manny was willing to take a pay cut, and now even better, youve managed to avoid him completely. Well ****ing played!

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I had rd 1,3,4 for Marquez.
2 and 5 for Pac.
rd 3 and 5 was 10-8 for both sides.
rd 1 could easily have gone to Pac.

rewatching now. Crazy good fight.

Don't see how a fifth fight doesn't happen if they keep fighting. Would make very good ppv i think.
Hopefully get to see Marquez-Bradley first.
Pac-Rios would be a lot of fun but probably not the best of ideas as he could shatter Pacs chin if it's busted. Pac should be able to outclass him though if he's not damaged.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Had it 47-46 Pacquiao after 5 (gave Marquez round 4).

Pacquiao had round 6 won until the KTFO.

I'd be impressed if Pacquiao comes back to form or even comes back at all.

That knockout looked career-ending to me. It takes a very mentally strong person to come back and fight like a champion after that loss. My heart sunk when I saw Manny out cold. I was actually shocked for a few seconds because IMO that was the least likely outcome of the fight.

ya same. And it really was the most unlikely. I easily expected a TKO win for Marquez in the later rds, 9 or on. as just as easily a Pac KO win at any time in the fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Awesome Fight

I really hope Pac does come back. He has more fights in him but fair enough if he doesn't he has been one of the best. Props to JMM, serious KO, a bit like Pac KO'ing Hatto

Can't believe i missed it live. Put my head down for a quick 45min nap and woke at 6am

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

nice touch that Pac KO'd him with the same punch shown on the leaked sparring video earlier this week.

30ish seconds.

Apparently Pac told filipino media that it was a lucky punch.

Really sad by the lack of gifs of Pacs wife at the end. Man she was hysterical.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

A pleasure to watch. Congratulations to Marquez, he deserves this. I have always been a fan of Marquez but I have been a huge fan of Pacquiao since the first Barrera fight so it was kind of sad to see kim KO'd like that. It was a totally different Pacquiao from the third fight though, which was good to see. I'm looking forward to number 5.

It's a shame to see talk of PEDs and Floyd Mayweather in this thread.

NO

absolute horrible gameplan to allow manny to be 'more aggressive'

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Oh please he was potentially gonna finish marquez in the next round or two, he got caught, it happens. Chin happens. If he doesn't get caught like that we are saying he had the best fight he had in years and fought an amazing fight

I don't buy that after the fact narrative and who knows if it had anything at all to do with roach and not just an aggressive fighter being aggressive when he smells blood. It's really really obvious that neither fighter wanted to go to the judges, it was a grudge match. That punch is always gonna potentially be there for Marquez unless manny fights a perfect fight

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Wasn't something said about how Manny never really listens to what Freddie says and just does his own thing in the ring?

Seemed like Manny was just reverting to his old self and Marquez exploited that.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

on 24/7 freddy was saying manny doesn't really listen to him anymore and manny tells him what to do now and he trusts manny at this point in his career to know what's best

ofc then the very next episode freddy talks about how he thought about that quote afterwards and decided that he was gonna start telling manny what to do again lol so I don't know who wore the pants during the fight. I think it's unreasonable to expect a fighter like manny not to go for the kill there in the heat of the moment regardless of what roach may have said is all I'm sayin

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Manny's mother says he lost because he's not Catholic lol

Quote:
“That’s what he gets for changing religion. Since the Protestant pastors came in to his life, he had not focused on his boxing. They always prayed, with Manny losing sleep,” she said.

“I hope he listens to me when he returns and be a Catholic again,” she added.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Manny gonna be Manny. It's just in his nature to be aggressive and that's tough to change. Just like Tyson says, "Everyone has a gameplan until they get punched in the face". I actually think this was the best Manny I've seen in 2 years. He was catching JMM with a lot of left hands and it looked like he was going to knock him out. JMM just threw a perfect punch.

I'd rather see this Manny instead of the passive Manny that takes his foot of the pedal and gives rounds away. The Manny that fought last night would have knocked most welterweights out.

To be fair to her, the Catholics have a pretty strong boxing family.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I'm really skeptic to a lot of what's said in Filipino media by Pac or about Pac. It's so weird, and conflicting with his US interviews.

But who knows. Maybe he use different strategies for PR reasons.

If true, that's some lol stuff from his mom.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Quote:
Following his knockout loss to Juan Manuel Márquez, Manny Pacquiao made a precautionary visit to University Medical Center. “Manny was given a CT scan and the results were negative,” said Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s advisor. “We were in an out in just over an hour and Manny was in excellent spirits.” Pacquiao returned to his penthouse suite in THEhotel for a family dinner followed by a viewing of his fourth fight against Marquez. As the DVD played, Pacquiao announced “Spoiler alert. I don’t think you are going to like how this ends!”

Pacquiao then issued the following statement to his fans:

“First and foremost I would like to thank God for keeping Juan Manuel Márquez and me safe during our fight on Saturday night,” said Pacquiao. “I want to congratulate Juan Manuel. I have no excuses. It was a good fight and he deserved the victory. I think boxing fans who watched us were winners too. To all my fans, I would like to thank you for your prayers and assure you that I am fine. I am looking forward to a nice rest and then I will be back to fight. On behalf of Jinkee and our family we would like to wish everyone a joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.”
How anyone can dislike Pacquiao is beyond me.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Because people are haters.

I think it's most people hating the fanbase rather than the fighter. Pactards are almost certainly the most annoying fans I have ever come across.
