Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Marquez bulked up like 5 pounds if it was even that much, big deal. He looked ripped as hell but I still don't understand the steroid claims and I'm a Pacquiao fan though I do like Marquez as well.

The Pacquiao steroid stuff was just as ridiculous when you look at Manny's fight night weights he had that showed he only bulked up a couple pounds despite going from fighting in the 126 division to 147. When Manny fought at 130 he was struggling to make weight and then showing up on fight night in the 144-148 range. When Manny fights in the 147 division he comes in fight night around 145-148 but weighs in about the same.

He won't.

Manny just got caught with a perfect punch. It happens, especially when facing another HOF great. Manny was beating JMM pretty clearly before the knockout.

Although in a way, funny to think about how much PPV equity he just lost with tonight's result - Pac was his only major cash cow left. Well...meh, I guess the Mexicans would buy Floyd-JMM II despite the result being fairly obvious, but still.

So Floyd gets ready for Timothy Bradley now in May, or something completely ****ing underwhelming like that? GJ, GE, Mr. GOAT.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Bradley is with TR, so Floyd isn't fighting him.

Floyd will fight Guerrero in May, who is with Golden Boy.

Floyd's big money fight is now with Canelo Alvarez, who he will probably fight in Sept 2013.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

holy ****...

I wanted retribution for a year ago when I scored the fight in favor of Marquez by a pretty wide margin even as a huge Manny fan. I did not expect this at all though, awesome for Juan even though this changes everything.

Good win for Marquez, nasty punch on a forward moving Manny. It almost looked like Manny KO'd himself diving onto that right hand.

Hopefully Manny is okay and I wouldn't mind seeing a 5th fight. I'd still rather see Floyd vs Manny just to finally have it but another fight with Marquez isn't awful.

I wouldn't mind seeing Marquez whip Bradley's ass either.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah this fight was amazing but from a boxing PPV/casual fan standpoint for the future I'm not sure what to think. The pacman star power clearly took a massive hit and he may never fight again...but it was such a great fight that you would also think whoever was watching might get into boxing a little more if they weren't already idk

i look forward to post fight interviews, but they need to stop forcing guys to do them after they get dropped like manny did. he needed to be attended to by doctors, not see larry merchant and that fool who does boxing coverage for espn.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

If you're a pure neutral with no vested interest, I don't know how tonight was anything but incredible to watch. That was the most compelling and exciting prizefight I've seen in a long time.

Great night for boxing as a spectacle, still made stuff pretty murky now going forward wrt the big guns right now.

Having digested this a bit more now, I'm really happy for Marquez. What a fantastic career and a win of this magnitude and significance is nothing less than what he deserves.

Yup. JMM is finally going to get the recognition he deserves. He has always been overshadowed by Morales and Barrera in Mexico.

this.

but also this outcome has essentially set in stone that Manny's next fight will be Manny vs JMM V

At this point I guess it's ok though, a true Manny v. Floyd fight was shot to **** over two years ago

Also I feel really really bad for Freddie Roach who I consider far and away the best trainer I'll ever see. He just saw all his stars fail even though he's still a great trainer and did a great job as far as I'm concerned.

Assuming that Manny comes back.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I can't even begin to describe how satisfied i felt for Marquez watching that KO. I've felt so bad and frustrated for him, especially after their last fight, so this was certainly a relief.

Pac was out cold. Looked almost dead. I had to stop cheering for a minute just to make sure he was "OK".
This was equal or worse than the Hatton KO Pac delivered.

Marquez is most likely on peds. So is Pac. So is almost everyone in boxing.
Big deal. As long as the tests come back clean there's nothing to even talk about. And they will come back clean obviously.

I actually had Marquez winning 1st rd and up by 1 point going into the 6th.

Pac-Mayweather is dead unless Pac decides to take Cotto type of money. He's not getting 50%, 45%,40% or even 30%. And i seriously doubt that will happen.

Pac should fight someone relevant but "easy" and then rematch Marquez for a 5th and final fight.

Marquez should fight Bradley ldo.

Marquez. One of the greatest and one of the fighters of this era i love the most.

I just realized that Pacs mom fainted over the Bradley decision. Hopefully she is alright after this.

most importantly, Marquez did this to a Pac that actually looked good. The best i seen since he beat Margarito.

Every fight for floyd is a major cash cow.

Every fight he'd make against reasonable opponents will make about 1 mill.
Fights against Marquez and Canelo would make 1.5 probably.

Yeah, I'm not into boxing at all, but I was there tonight as a friend of mine was comped tickets. One of the more exciting sporting events I've ever attended. Definitely makes me want to follow more closely.

Yea, I thought he looked solid from the opening bell and as the fight went on it looked like the old Pacquiao was back.

The last sequence was just razor thin timing by Marquez. If Marquez does not barely slip the Pacquiao right coming at him, Manny's punch gets there first and has ko written all over it. But JMM does slip it and his counter right is right on the money.

Why is that guy holding out his hand next to Pacquiao's head on the canvas as if trying to cradle it or something? Probably some kind of instinctive action, but to what purpose?

I don't think either fighter owes us more. I'm satisfied with 4. But I'd love to see 5 if they're up for it.
