Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

No idea if the UK fans that hate Khan are racists, but he's disliked by fans all over the world. Froch has some of the arrogance Khan shows, but he's toned it down a lot and is a brute hardworking tough guy that is easier to like than some flashy kid with a weak chin. People love Rocky, not Apollo.

On the same note i really doubt the reason Mayweather is hated is because he's black.

Meh discussion imo.

Anyone else find it funny how Roach accuse Marquez of being on roids? And he now wants olympic style testing for the fight? lol.

I think the reason Khan thinks that way(about being best/most liked in UK) is because he puts up the biggest numbers. That will change for sure over the next 5 years. But at this moment, even despite his defeats, he could still sell more tickets than Brook or any other British fighter(Hatton aside). Even Froch would struggle to match Khans box office numbers. Haye couldnt get close, not even if he fought a Klitschko. Unfortunately thats how the fight game is now, its all about who can pull in the numbers.

Im not expecting genuine fight fans to hate on him because hes a Muslim. But the casual fan in my experience definitely does.
I have absolutely no evidence to back this up but that can't be true. Khan hasn't been on Sky Box Office for a long time. I think Haye's fight with Valuev, Harrison and Klitschko all sold a lot more than any of Khan's fights ever had.

Froch is extremely arrogant and says some very stupid things. But he can get away with it because he consistently fights the best. Amir Khan on the other hand always compares himself with Pacquiao and Mayweather but has no intention of going near either of them at least until they decline a lot more. If Khan and Mayweather were white I would dislike them just as much.

Why are people so stupid? Roach of all people should understand that you can't say things like that. Also everyone in boxing should find out what "olympic style" drug testing is before using that term. I think Nonito Donaire is the only boxer currently undergoing olympic style testing, I believe he can be tested any time of the year. What a lot of people are calling olympic style testing should be renamed "Mayweather style testing".

Im not sure if you put Khan on Box Office he would still get the numbers your talking about.

Froch is a different scenario .. hes never really had the limelight like Khan had and im pretty sure that grates Froch somewhat ... hence the verbal spats they have on twitter etc.

But Froch is having his limelight now ... allbeit a little late and a touch over the top if you ask me .. but Froch's ego is making the most of it and rightly so and this late stage of his career.

Froch will fight anyone and thats what fans like to see, but the Sky Sports hype job are going a little overboard with his Bute win and the less said about the Yusaf Mack the better.

I still think Calzaghe would have toyed with him for 12 rounds without much fuss in all honesty.
Sorry when I said box office I meant the total viewing figures as in the total the fight grosses.

I may have got the terminology wrong, IDK.

Not sure the Froch will fight anyone thing stands up here, Khan has gone after the biggest fights pretty much always. If you offered him Mayweather tomorrow he would be in there. I dont think hes ever given any reason for people to think otherwise.

Or in this case, we can call it Roach style testing.

There is no way Khan's fights have grossed more than Haye's last 5 fights. The Valuev fight put Haye on a completely different level. Khan is Britain's second biggest name though.

Cmon Scooby ... you can do better than that , Khan always says hes going to fight the biggest names but it dont quite happen does it ?

Who has Amir really fought ? .. his whole career has been pretty much manufactured since the Prescott disaster.

Fagan, Barrera, Kotelnyk, Salita, Malignaggi, Maidana, McCloskey, Judah, Peterson and Garcia.

Most of them are either average to rubbish or way past thier best.

Maidana seemed decent but hes since proved otherwise.

The only fights against possibly dangerous opponents are the two hes lost !

To be fair to Khan he did seem to genuinely want to fight Bradley. But the way he continually complains about how Bradley ducked him is so stupid.

Why would Bradley duck Khan but then fight Pacquiao ? does not really make much sense that .

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

It makes sense because if he takes the Khan fight and loses then the Paquiao fight is no longer on the table.

I think Khan has fought the best fighters:

1, Available
2, Who wanted to fight him

Lets be honest the Mayweather and Paquiao fights were at least 2 years away, and that was before he lost to Garcia. So its not like hes talked smack but ducked the fight.

Be interesting to see if Khan/brook ever gets made, that would prove it 1 way or the other IMO.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Khan has fought most of the guys he's been "offered" and his resumé at 140 was pretty good until he lost to Peterson and Garcia.

The problem with Khan is he's an underachiever. He really needs to rebound well.

Are we still calling that a defeat to Petersen? Even without the drugs Khan clearly won the fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I wouldn't say clearly. Not to me anyway. Marquez W over Pac was more clear and even that was quite speculative.

I assume everyone is on "roids"(hgh, testo, epo whatever) as a default. It's easier that way.

Either way, Khan has a long way to go before he's matched his hype.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I'm pretty sure Khan would fight Mayweather/Pacquiao if offered. He offered Bradley, who was a much smaller draw, 50/50, fought relatively unknown, very hard punching Maidana when people said he was avoiding punchers, signed for an immediate Peterson rematch, chased a Garcia rematch after getting iced in 4 etc. Problem is he talks a lot of bollocks ("I've got one of boxing's best chins" and throws out racism accusations when people call him out on it (Prince Naseem used to read Quran passages on the way to the ring and was massively popular), talks about how he's a good muslim and then is involved in various peccadillos.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I hate the GBP/TR feud. It's screwing us out of so many good fights.

Golden Boy proposed Abner Mares - Nonito Donaire and Brandon Rios - Lucas Mathysse.
Shot down by Bob Arum of course.

""It's not major league baseball. We don't trade fighters! You trade baseball players, you don't trade fighters. This guy knows nothing about the sport of boxing" Arum would tell Boxingscene."

yup. I don't think he has done anything but try to fight the best. The problem is his results aren't good enough to fight the absolute a listers but he is fighting clear B guys who are tough and competitive imo
